Bouncer nodded.“We’re going to protect ourselves but it’s going to be bloody and we don’t want or need any help from anyone else.We have done this sort of thing before and we won’t bring civilians in on this fight.”
Judge Molitor nodded.“I know what kind of men you are but that doesn’t explain what I’m doing here.”
Bouncer grinned.“So you’re here to marry Crank and his woman.Ole Todd ran her off years ago but they found each other again and this way, if they are married then his brothers have no right to his money if something happens to him, which knowing them it just might. He wants to protect her and their daughter legally by giving them his name.”
The judge smiled.“Well, I can certainly do that, but we’d better hurry.I don’t want to get caught up in the crossfire, if you know what I mean.”
Bouncer nodded.“I certainly do.”
The sheriff nodded at Titus and asked, “Do you still have those other men here?”
He shook his head.“Naw, we don't let them go.We found out that the only way Ricco could keep his men was by blackmail and threats. So as soon as he hit the floor dead, his men cheered. We didn’t have the heart to keep them.He threatened their families to keep them under his thumb.Hell, they are probably halfway back to Mexico by this time.”
“Ok, let’s get this wedding done then.”The judge smiled.
They all went back inside.
Crank, all spiffed up and his bride, stood there in the closest thing she could find to a nice dress.
The Judge stepped over to where they stood and spoke quietly to the both of them. Then he nodded and his clerk stepped forward.Crank and Ursala signed a few papers, then everyone gathered around and were Crank’s witnesses.
Reno stood beside her mother.
Fifteen minutes later, Ursala and Crank were married. The judge put his seal on the document and the clerk stamped it then registered it.
Crank emailed it to the lawyer and the confirmation was emailed back.It was all legal.Crank had taken steps to not only protect his woman and his child but he put another wall between his trust and his greedy brothers.
The judge, sheriff and the rest of that party left shortly after the wedding.
Chapter Eight
Crank looked into Ursala’seyes and apologized for what he called thewedding hooplashe deserved.“I’m so sorry honey.”
“For what?”Ursala asked.
He wrapped his arms around her.“You deserved so much better than what I gave you today,” Crank whispered.“You didn’t even have a proper wedding gown or a cake.”
