Interesting list.It sounded more like how to dress a snob. The jockstrap was an odd touch, though. Snobs that strut around in jockstraps. I shoveled more spaghetti into my mouth and continued reading. The next page was a campus map. I set my fork down again and turned the paper horizontally to look at the map. Wow. Someone really spent a lot of time drafting up this joke.It was a joke, right?

The campus had a main building, library, dining room, observatory, health building, and a mentor’s dormitory building. Is that where Atlas Christos lives? There were dormitories for professors and faculty as well. Located within proximity of one another were the cohort dormitories. The intro letter mentioned that I had been assigned to one of these but would receive info about it another time. On the back of the campus map were details about hours of operation for the library, observatory, and meal service for the dining room. There was additional info about what was included in the main building. It looked like there were classrooms, an auditorium, event rooms, study areas, and offices. I set the campus map to the side and picked up the next sheet.

Omnia Academy Cohorts

As you study to essentially become a necessity, you will be placed in one of the five cohorts for the duration of your time at Omnia Academy. Each cohort is named after an element of life and is rich in its own history. The members of your cohort will become your family and closest friends. The five cohorts are listed below along with their identifying color.

Terra Cohort – Emerald Green

Aqua Cohort – Navy Blue

Ignis Cohort – Burgundy

Air Cohort – Dark Gray

Locus Cohort – Purple

Without takingmy eyes off the cohort paper, I reached for my fork and twirled spaghetti around it. Before bringing the fork to my mouth, I turned the page, eager to see what else was there.

Prior to Your First Day

Rest assured that before walking onto the Omnia Academy campus, your mentor will have you prepared.

- Meet in person with your mentor. He will arrange the visit and will work with you on scheduling weekly calls to make sure all your questions are answered prior to the start of the term.

- Meet at one of our off-campus medical facilities to have a physician perform a physical.

- Meet with one of our licensed psychologists to complete a psychological evaluation.

- Visit the clothing and supply stores with your mentor.

- Visit a spa the week prior to the start of term. Your mentor will arrange this.

While I finished my dinner,I looked at the campus map again. Even though I was pretty sure this was a joke from a friend, it would almost be cool if this place actually existed. It looked cool on paper, but what was taught there was what I didn’t understand.

“So what was in the envelope?” Pam asked as she came into the kitchen. She went to the fridge and got a bottle out for one of the babies.

“Oh, nothing really.” I stood and took the empty plate and glass to the sink.

“That was a fancy envelope for nothing to be inside.”

“It wasn’t a wedding invitation or anything like that. I think it’s just junk mail or a friend is playing a joke on me.”

“Why do you say that?”

I leaned against the counter and stared at the pile of cream-colored papers scattered beside the black folder and envelope.

“It’s stuff for some school I’ve never heard of?—”

“A college?” I could hear the excitement in her voice.

“Yeah. Well, no. Not really. I mean, maybe… I guess.” I walked to the table with Pam following me. I moved the folder out of the way and picked up the campus map to show her.

“That looks very nice, Ryder.”

“I guess.” I was suddenly irritated that I still hadn’t heard anything from USC, and the fall semester was supposed to start at the end of next month. I gathered the papers on the table and stuffed them all into the envelope along with the folder when Roger walked into the kitchen.
