“What’s up?” she asked.
“Hey. So I’d been sleeping and Michael called me. He said that bitch, Anna, wasn’t going to be much help at the doctor’s appointment and that Jensen asked for me to go.”
“I wonder what’s up with their mom.”
“I don’t know, but I don’t like her.”
“Jensen trusts you.”
“Yeah. So I got out of bed and went with them. I just got home about ten minutes ago, and my eyes can’t stay open much longer. So I won’t be there tonight.”
“I understand. I was able to sleep for about seven hours and am up now, but I’m still tired too.”
“Enjoy dinner tonight and keep your eye on the bitch mom. Then get some sleep and don’t eat anything tomorrow so you’ll have a big appetite for our dinner date.” I had a to get some sort of jab in before I got off the phone. “Work up an appetite for some meat. I know you crave it.”
I smiled when I heard her sigh.
“Do you know if I just need to call the restaurant to get a reservation at the meat house?” she asked.
“I’ll take care of the reservations.”
“I figured you’d say that.”
“What?”
“Sawyer Lombardi just flashing smiles and dropping his name will get reservations anywhere.”
“Settle down. You and I will have a great dinner tomorrow.”
“Yay me. I get dinner with Sawyer and get to listen to him gloat about making a flight attendant come on a plane.”
“It was a jet, I’d like to point out.”
“What time should I be ready for the torment tomorrow?”
I thought for a moment as I quickly devised my plan.
“Be ready at five.”
“Five? You want the senior time? Early bird special so you can get rid of me and move on to some other woman to get your dick wet before you crash into bed?”
In between her words of humor were thoughts of not being good enough to occupy my time. But fine, she could think that way if it made her feel better.
“Yes, five.”
“You’re confident you’ll get reservations?”
I laughed.
“I’ll be by your place to pick you up at five.”
“See you tomorrow.”
What was her story anyhow?
I sat up in bed and pressed the number on the phone to call my mom.
“Sawyer, sweetie, what a pleasant surprise!”
