I know, I know.
An incoming text from Daniel pulled my attention away from texting Taylor.
I just drove by Wade’s property in Solsidan. There are a few cars parked outside, and there is a soft glowing light on in the shed across the lake.
Were the cars at the house or the shed?
The house. I am at a gas station at the south end of Solsidan now. I am going to drive a little farther south and then come back through.
Should I come out that way now? Do you think there’s someone in the shed? Jensen?
I don’t know. Get some rest, and I will keep driving back and forth through town. I will let you know in the morning when Wade leaves again.
I hope he does leave in the morning. Who knows, though, now that the rest of his family has suddenly disappeared.
True. We will find out in the morning.
I updated Taylor about the texts from Daniel.
Daniel just texted after he drove by Wade’s. He said there are a bunch of cars parked outside and there is a light on in the shed on the other side of the lake.
That’s interesting. I wonder if Wade is having some emergency meeting out there.
I’m not sure. Daniel said he’s going to let me know in the morning as soon as Wade leaves the house.
Tomorrow will tell.
Yep, we’d have to wait until tomorrow. I put my phone on the charger but turned the volume up so I would hopefully wake up at the sound of any incoming texts.
CHAPTERTWELVE
Sawyer
Igot into bed with the intention of mentally walking back through the day, but I was so jetlagged and exhausted that I managed to fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I was asleep and hadn’t heard a few texts come in from Taylor and Michael during the night. But I saw them as soon as I woke up. I opened Taylor’s text first.
Just landed in New York and met Michael and Aria inside the terminal. The kids were excited to see Aria. Anna seemed indifferent and didn’t help her kids. She barely hugged Aria. Anna did bring up Jensen and that she didn’t know where he was. I’m on the jet again, and we’re taking back off shortly. Just need to refuel.
I closed it and moved onto Michael’s.
I’m going to personally kill their motherfucking father. Both the boys have knots on their heads.
I checked to make sure I didn’t miss a text from Daniel, and when I hadn’t seen anything from him, I decided I’d better check in with him. Wade was obviously dangerous and into some crazy shit.
Anything new?
Then I replied to Michael.
I’m glad the kids are with you. Make sure your doctor looks them over.
He’s also suggesting the emergency room for the kids when we land. I swear to God, Sawyer, they better not find anything else.
I had a strong feeling the doctors would probably find all sorts of bruised bones and what not.
Anything new from Daniel?
Not yet. I just sent him a text.
I checked my text string with Daniel to make sure the text was delivered. Once I saw it had, in fact, gone through, I got out of bed and hurried through my routine to get ready. I put my shoulder holster on over my sweatshirt and then pulled on my coat. I packed everything up and headed downstairs to grab coffee and something to eat. As I dumped sugar into my coffee, my screen lit up with an incoming text. I grabbed the phone when I saw it was Daniel.
