“This is a big day.”

“It is. Which is why I suggested that you wear something you’re comfortable in.”

“I want to look nice.”

“You always look nice. And your father won’t think anything negative about what you wear.” James tightened his grip on my shoulder and then removed his arm from around my waist. He swatted my underwear-clad ass cheek and laughed when I yelped in surprise.

“Are you going to do that to me in front of him?” I teasingly asked and turned to face him. He smiled and shrugged as he raised his eyebrow as if considering it. “James!”

“Relax, pup. I have no intention of spanking you in front of your father.” James laughed as he wrapped his arms around me. “I’m probably old enough to be his father and could spank his ass.”

“James!” I tried to move out from his arms and glared at him. James wrapped his hands around my wrists and pulled me against him.

“Please relax, pup. I’m only kidding. Let’s get you dressed.”

“Just pick something out for me. This is too stressful.”

“Okay. I’ll pick out your clothes.”

I took a step to the side and waited quietly for him to pick the stuff out. His hand moved toward a blue button-down shirt, and I hissed out of fear. He turned to look at me.

“Not that one,” I begged. James rolled his eyes and moved in the direction of my short-sleeved t-shirts.Yes!When his hand neared my favorite white t-shirt, I let him know by clapping eagerly. He turned to look at me, and I quickly nodded to let him know that he’d found a winner. He took it off the hanger and handed it to me. I pulled it on while he searched for some pants for me. I quickly clapped again as his hand neared my favorite pair of jeans. They were perfect. Not too dark and not too light. James pulled them off the hanger and handed them to me.

“See, I knew you could pick out your own outfit,” James said as he walked toward the side of the closet where his clothes hung.

“I know. I’m just nervous.”

James pulled on his black button-down, long-sleeved shirt and then walked toward me while buttoning the cuffs. He put a hand on my shoulder and looked into my eyes.

“I know you are, pup. This is your decision, remember that. We can go meet them, or we can call and reschedule. I’ve told them that you’re not going to be pressured.”

“I know. I want to go. I want to meet him, but I’m really nervous.”

“I have a feeling he’s just as nervous as you are.”

“You think so?”

“I know so.”

“Do I look okay?” I asked.

“More than okay. It’ll be fine. We can stay as long as you’d like.”

I nodded. Before I knew it, we were in James’ car and heading to Andrew’s place. Andrew’s house was where we decided to meet because it was neutral ground.

“Is Morgan going to be there too?” I asked as we neared Andrew’s. My leg nervously bounced when we turned onto his street.

“I told Chase that he was welcome to bring Morgan. You’ve already met Morgan, and Chase deserves to have someone supportive with him too.”

“As if this is my fault,” I mumbled.

“It isn’t his fault either,” James reminded me.

I nodded. It was my mom who’d kept us apart.

“Are Tabitha and the twins going to be there?” I asked.

“No, Andrew said she’s spending the afternoon with the twins at her parents’ house. So it’ll just be us, Andrew, and Morgan and Chase.”
