One Month Later

While the tattoo artist wrapped up my finger, I kept my eyes on Ryan. He didn’t look nervous at all. Instead, he looked calm, content, and happy. When the artist got up to prep for Ryan, I stood and put my hand on the back of his neck.

“Ready?” I asked him.

“Yes! This will keep you with me, even if I take the actual ring off when I go swimming,” Ryan said as he sat in the seat I had just vacated.

“Tattoo or not, I’m always with you, Ryan,” I reminded him, taking the seat he had been in.

As I proudly watched the tattoo artist apply the ink to Ryan’s ring finger on his left hand, all I could do was smile. Pieces of my soul were finally branded onto Ryan.
