“Is there something physically wrong with my finger?”

“Is there something wrong with it?” I repeated his question.

“Yes, is there something wrong with the finger? Did I get frostbite? Was I in an accident and my hand or finger injured?”

“What? No, nothing like that. Just if you tattooed a ring on your finger and then separated from the person, and you didn’t want to look at the tattoo. Would you get the tattoo removed or have your finger amputated?”

“I would live with it.”

“That wasn’t one of the options.”

“I didn’t like my options.”

“Too bad, those were the options. You have to pick.”

“Ryan—”

“Pick one.”

“I’d get the tattoo removed.”

“Good choice. Chopping a finger off would suck. Though, I wouldn’t get it removed. I’d just wear a bandage over it.”

“You didn’t offer me the bandage as an option. I would have selected that one.”

“Sorry.” I shrugged. “My game, so I get to pick the options,” I teased.

“Okay, my turn. Would you rather have a ring tattooed on your ring finger or wear a physical ring?”

Ohh, he’s good.

“It’s my game, and you don’t get turns.”

Russell huffed out a laugh.

“I think I just took a turn.”

“My rules.”

“My boy.”

Oh. Damn him.

“Okay, let me think a second. Is the physical ring to symbolize marriage?”

“Yes.”

“Okay … hmm … it would be easier for me to just remove the ring if the relationship failed—”

“Why does it have to fail? No part of my question even remotely insinuated a failed relationship. It’s not a failed relationship, so which would you rather wear?”

“Hmm … both could be cool to have. A traditional ring, though we’re not a traditional couple. A tattoo would be badass, but—”

“Remember, it’s not a failed relationship, nor is there a chance of it failing. So stop thinking about cutting off a finger.”

“Umm …” I continued to think. “The tattoo. There’d be less of a chance I’d lose it, unlike the physical ring.”

“I’ll come up with another question for the game,” I said and leaned my head against the headrest to gaze out the window. An upcoming sign caught my eye. “Hey, does that say ‘Welcome to Arizona’ on it?”
