Andrew pretended to think about Josh’s offer. It made me wonder if by chance Josh and Andrew might have tended to one another’s needs while they’d lived together. There was nothing more masculine than a heteroflexible man. The two guys joked around while Alison’s annoyance grew.
“So, when are you leaving, Josh?” Alison asked.
“I’m beat. If I stay any longer, I won’t even be able to get myself home.”
“Will you drive me home if I suck your dick?” Alison posed the question to Josh.
“Seriously?” he asked.
I'd learned that all of this nonsense was just noise because Alison was renting a room at Josh’s. Both of them had their cars here, and both of them were too exhausted to drive home. I’d had enough, and James had as well.
“Enough.” I stood and glanced down at Josh and Alison. “Both of you get your asses outside and in my SUV.” They stared up at me with blank expressions. “Now!” I barked at them.
Josh and Alison scurried to the door, bickering, as James and I walked a few steps behind them. I could tell in the way James carried himself that he was emotionally drained.
“Try not to worry.” I shook my head as I watched Alison playfully shove Josh away from the door to the front passenger seat. It’s like they’re teenage siblings.“He’ll turn up,” I finished my thought.
“Thank you for getting them home safely,” James said as we watched Josh and Alison argue over who would sit in the front.
“Backseat, both of you!”
“Ooohhh! You made Dr. Sam yell!” Josh sang and pointed his finger in Alison’s face while she pulled open the door to the back. He purposely tried to wiggle his finger close to her nose without touching her.
“It’s Dr. Chisholm! Get your creepy butthole finger out of my face,” Alison whined as she shoved his hand away.
The two of them climbed into the backseat and closed the door, leaving James and me in silence. I shook my head and looked at James. Were they like this with him?Now that they weren’t in James’ home or directly under his wing, I could see they needed to be reintroduced to some structure and discipline.
“I’ll make sure they’re safe, James,” I said before I clasped my hand on his shoulder.
When I got into the SUV, they were still making jabs and insults at one another. As soon as I started the vehicle and checked my mirrors, they settled down.
“Thank you for taking us home, Sam,” Josh spoke up.
“Yes, thank you,” Alison added. “I’m so glad I didn’t have to suck Josh’s dick,” she jabbed.
“Girl, you’d love this dick,” Josh retorted.
“Mhmm. Right. If you were the last guy on earth, and I suddenly craved a dick. Why couldn’t it have been you who ran away instead of Brandon?”
I looked in the rearview mirror at Alison and then at Josh. Alison obviously was frustrated. My guess was that she was the type that masked their authentic feelings with a snotty and bratty front. Josh had a smirk on his face from Alison’s comment. It was interesting, though, that he didn’t have a comeback for her. They seemed to poke at one another, though Alison seemed to usually have the last laugh.
“Since it’s so late and I live close, are you two okay with crashing at my place?” I asked.
“Yeah, no problem. Thank you,” Josh said.
“Yeah, I guess I can sleep in the doctor’s posh place,” Alison joked.
“Of course you’d sleep there; you’d do just about anything else there too,” Josh mumbled his jokes. Alison jabbed him in the side with her elbow.
“Argh!” She sighed loudly.
“Guys, keep your eyes out for Brandon as we drive, please,” I reminded them.
“Poor Brandon,” Alison said. “I hope he’s not hungry.”
“He’s smart. If he was hungry, he’d go to a shelter,” Josh added.
“Yeah, right. Brandon’s from Beverly Hills. He might not even know what a shelter is or how to get there,” Alison blurted.
