“Andrew, man, I’m so tired that I don’t think I can keep my eyes open to get me home safely. If I suck your dick, will you drive me home?” Joshua offered.
Somehow, I had enough energy to raise my eyebrow at Joshua and then glanced at Sam again. Andrew put his fingertips to his lips and looked upward as if considering the offer. He smiled and stretched his arm with a closed fist toward Joshua. They bumped fists and laughed.
“I would drive you home,” Andrew accepted the offer and laughed while Joshua continued to mock Alison.
“See, that’s how you do it.” Joshua smiled and shrugged.
“Whatever,” Alison rolled her eyes. “Josh, when are you leaving?”
“Soon, I’m beat. If I stay much longer, I won’t be able to get myself home.”
“If I suck your dick, will you drive me home?” Alison offered.
Joshua’s cheeks reddened, and a bashful smile appeared on his face.
“Really, seriously?” he asked.
“Enough. Both of you get your asses outside and in my SUV,” Sam instructed as he stood. Neither Alison or Joshua had moved from the couch, but both of them were looking up at Sam. “Now!”
I stood and thanked Joshua and Alison for helping me look for Brandon as they hurried toward the front door. Sam strolled to the door beside me.
“Try not to worry, James. He will turn up,” Sam encouraged.
I was pretty confident that Brandon would turn up. But in what condition would he be in was on my mind.
“Thank you for playing taxi to them and getting them home safely.” I nodded in the direction of Alison and Joshua bickering about the front seat.
“Backseat, both of you!” Sam hollered over to them.
Each of them blamed the other for causing Sam to yell. Sam watched them get into the backseat and when the doors closed, he turned to look at me with a smirk on his face.
“I will make sure they are safe.” As Sam walked to his SUV, he called out, “I’ll call you tomorrow.”
I waved my hand in the direction of the backseat where Alison and Joshua were safely tucked in. I knew that Sam had the next few days off from the hospital, and I had a feeling he was taking the two of them to his place for the night.
“They’re in good hands with Sam,” I told Andrew as I closed the door and walked back to my chair with my cell phone in hand.
“Those two are in for it.” Andrew smiled and shook his head.
“They are. Now, you have almost an hour drive ahead of you. Are you going to make it?”
Andrew’s expression told me that he was considering staying the night. He knew that he was more than welcome to do so.
“It might even be longer. They’re doing some work on the freeway down on the fifteen. It’s part of the repaving project. They only had one lane open in each direction,” he explained.
“You’re more than welcome to stay, Andrew. You know that,” I reminded him.
He nodded and picked up his cell phone from the couch cushion beside him. He said he was going to text Elise. While he sent her a text, I went to check Brandon’s phone again; nothing new. I looked over at Andrew when his phone rang and hurried back into the living room. Andrew frowned at the phone and then looked up at me.
“Sorry. I have to take this. It’s Elise,” Andrew blurted. “Hello?” he answered.
With my phone and Brandon’s in hand, I sat on my leather chair and relaxed against the backrest. I watched Andrew as he listened to Elise on the other end. Though I couldn’t hear exactly what she said, Andrew’s expression was enough of a clear indicator that Elise wasn’t happy.
“Mmhmm,” Andrew said as he leaned forward and rubbed on a spot on top of his shoe. “No,” he said. “I’m sure they understood, Elise—”
She cut him off and spoke rapidly and loudly. Moments passed by before Andrew was able to get a few words in.
“No, but—”
