“Yes! Yes, that would be fabulous, Liam. Take Ethan with you. I do not want any of us alone,” Istated.
“But are we not safe in the castle?” Michanasked.
“I believe that we are, yes. However, I still do not know how River was able to breach the castle. And as he alluded to just downstairs, there could be flaws in the halo and in myring.”
“River is alone,” Seanadded.
“River is one of them, Sean,” Ethansnapped.
“Ethan, I do not want any arguing among us. We must stick together,” I firmlysaid.
I cannot have the boys starting to dig at one another. I waved at Liam and Ethan to fetch the book that Liam referenced. I was suddenly grateful that Liam had taken up such an interest in Klyn’sbooks.
“Is River just like the Carpe Noctem?” Sean quietly asked me once Liam and Ethan left theroom.
“I do not know exactly, Sean,” I answered him with as much honesty as Icould.
“I do not think he is,” Sean said under hisbreath.
“Why?” Michangrilled.
Liam and Ethan had returned with the book and set it down on the settee. Liam began flipping through the pages looking for the map ofDreyle.
“He could have killed all of us off, one by one. But he did not. The Queen even took him to the Darick mint. Nothing has gone missing,” Seanangled.
“He does have a point. River was outside with us when the storm picked up and the fog came. He could have easily left us behind or turned on us. But he made sure Sean and I dropped everything and ran for the castle,” Michanrecalled.
Everyone was quiet, and all that could be heard were the pages of parchment as Liam leafed through thebook.
“Is River like you and Sir Klyn?” Ethaninquired.
“I do not know yet, Ethan. I do not know what he is exactly,” Imaintained.
“If he is, maybe he has enhanced senses like you and Sir Klyn,” Seanblurted.
“He has something for sure because he got into the castle,” Ethanmuttered.
I got the boys to focus on the map in the book. Brookhaven was the closest town and I was almost certain they would not have Klyn there. Stonebridge was far to the east along the coast. I was impressed with Liam’s knowledge about the towns in Dreyle. He has been picking a lot up fromKlyn.
“Stonebridge is a possibility since that area is transient and violent. Their travels would be easily masked by the fog that rolls in off the ocean,” Liamexplained.
“Sean, you are from Stonebridge. Do you recall there ever being a vampire presence there?” Michan askedSean.
“No, but that does not mean they were not there. A lot went onthere.”
“There is also Lochport to consider,” Liam announced and tapped his finger on theparchment.
“Yes, Lochport is on the western coast side,” Michancommented.
“Oh! What about Wester Lea?” Ethan asked with a sudden burst ofexcitement.
I glanced at Wester Lea. It was the most northern town on theparchment.
“Fog would not be as easily prevalent there as it would in Lochport or Stonebridge, though,” Liam logicallyadded.
We sat in silence for another few moments. I really had no idea of where they would have takenKlyn.
“Maybe we should ask River,” Seansuggested.
