“My boy, I never left you in the first place,” I whispered and pressed my lips to his forehead. “Rest, Ryan. I will be right here and won’t letgo.”

For hours we laid together in bed. We got out of bed when we had decided to go grab a bite to eat for dinner. As I started to get dressed and ready to go, I went back to Ryan as he stood in front of the full-length mirror. He looked at himself with fullconcentration.

“What are you doing,Ryan?”

“Justlooking.”

“What do you see, Ryan?” I askedhim.

Nearly every other time I had asked him, he had some comical answer, and I’d simply smile and accept it. But I knew in my heart that one day I’d hear him say what Isaw.

“Yours,” he said with confidence that warmed my heart and brought tears to myeyes.

“Good boy, Ryan. Mine. I knew you’d seeit.”
