Ma growls under her breath and I see her going for her spoon. She’s got a temper on her and if she thinks I’ve hurt Posy’s feelings she’ll swat the hell out of me just for fun.

Stepping forward, I take a deep breath and underneath the fried chicken I can smell the trace of something so sweet that it’s almost like candy. When I get closer to her I realize that it’s her. My mouth waters and I have to fight that urge to take off with her again.

She eyes me suspiciously and I can’t help but grin. Damn, she’s cute. Up this close and without the dim light of the bar I can see a scattering of light freckles across her pale cheeks and the bridge of her pert little nose.

She’s not exactly beautiful but there’s something about this woman that drives me a little crazy and considering that I don’t want a woman, that’s a bad thing.

She tosses her head and her flame-red hair dances just out of reach, warming some cold place in my chest that hasn’t felt warm in ages.

“Posy,” I growl. “I didn’t expect to see you here tonight.” Glancing over, I glare at ma. “I’m guessing ma invited you.”

Jules leans back on his chair and laughs. “Well, a man should spend time with his fiancé after all.”

Rounding on him I hiss, “I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about. I don’t have a fiancé.”

“Actually you do. I already talked to Posy this morning. She was surprised. But I convinced her that you’d love her to be here to meet your family. Without a fight breaking out.”

“The night’s young, ma.” Glaring at Jules, I slip into the seat across from where ma is pushing Posy into a seat. She immediately changes directions and about yanks Posy off her feet and throws her into the chair next to me. Then she moves the chairs until I’m practically shoved onto Posy’s lap.

Rolling my eyes, I grab my napkin and then a couple pieces of fried chicken. Passing them to Posy, I feel her finger slide along mine and a wild craving for something more than chicken heats me.

I want this woman.

Garret comes into the room and glances at Posy, smiling. “Hello. I remember you from last night.”

Ma grins. “Yeah. This is your brother Stone’s fiancé. Isn’t she cute?”

Garret’s mouth drops open and he drops into a seat and I snicker under my breath.

Honestly I think ma is enjoying messing with us. But when she starts talking to Posy again, Garret shoots me a look with his raised eyebrow.

Shrugging, I take a bite of my chicken and watch as she does the same.

Groaning, I fight the jerk in my jeans when her full pink lips close around the fork and she pulls the food off of it.

It has to be sexiest thing in the world that I’ve ever seen.

Taking a big bite I pick the fork clean and try to figure out what the hell I’m doing here and why I don’t want to make amove on the woman next to me. She smells so good that I want to eat her on the nearest flat surface.

That cannot happen. I don’t need a woman.

But my eyes never leave the sexy little siren talking to my mother and brother, laughing at something the asshole says to her.

I want to punch him right in his pretty damn face. Growling, I kick out and catch him in the leg, sick satisfaction rising when the asshole groans and glares at me, reaching under the table to massage his sore shin.

Serves him right. He needs to get his own girl.

CHAPTER 6

Posy

Dinner is awkward as hell and nobody talks about the huge elephant in the room.

Namely, my fake engagement.

Unless his mom proposed and I missed it!

Giggling under my breath, I glance over at the big man from under my lashes. My breath catches when his deep green eyes meet mine. I can’t look away. Heat flames in my belly and the curl of desire in my belly matches the flare in his emerald eyes.
