“Why would you think we will start hunting for those men? We aren’t the police. We are private investigators,” Sydney said. “Who do you think it was?”
I shook my head. The twins, as most people still call them, are identical. They are what my mom calls mystery sleuths. Most of the time, they investigate who committed the murder in unsolved cases.
People pay them a good amount of money to find out who did it. They are exceptionally skilled at what they do, but it is also a dangerous profession. We all could fight, shoot a gun, shoot an arrow, and hit the bullseye every time. Our dad made sure of that.
“You stay away from those people. I think it’s the cartel trying to use the woods behind Jasper’s property for their drug manufacturing. Someone bought the property next to those woods back there, and my guess is it was the cartel.”
“I have invited Jasper and Hawk to dinner,” Dad said, walking in the back door. “This is a treat, I have all my girls here. Are you staying the night?”
“Yes,” we all said at the same time.
“Are you wearing your gun to dinner?” he asked, looking at me.
“Dad, you know I have to wear my gun.”
“At dinner?”
“Those men who jumped Jasper can show up at any time.”
“Then we should all grab our guns and take them to dinner,” he said.
“Okay, I’ll put it in the closet. But I noticed Hawk wears a gun. Are you going to make him take his off, too?”
“We’ll see when they get here, which will be in about thirty minutes.
“It’s a good thing I put my roast in the slow cooker, or we would all be eating sandwiches,” Mom said.
I made the biscuits and put them in the oven. “Sydney, can you take these from the oven while I shower?”
“Yes, take your time. We want you to be beautiful when Hawk shows up.”
“You are so funny,” I said, shaking my head as I walked away.

Hawk
Icalled Logan and asked him to look into the Cali Cartel from Colombia. “They jumped my Dad when he told them to get off his property. I think they plan on setting up a drug lab here in Copper Cove.”
“Why the fuck would they want to start a drug lab in Copper Cove? How is your Dad?”
“Because this is the last place anyone would think to look. Dad’s good. He is still a damn good fighter, which saved his life.”
“I’ll check everything and get back with you.”
“Thanks, Logan.”
“Are you ready?” Dad asked as he walked into my old room. “You’ll have to drive; my ribs are hurting too much to drive my old stick shift.”
“What happened to Mom’s car? I noticed it was gone.”
“I gave it to the Randolph family. Do you remember Jim? He used to take care of our yard. He broke his back, and the family needed a vehicle to get around. Your mom would have wanted me to give it to Alice.”
“That’s too bad.How did he break his back?”
“He was trimming trees in the next county and fell off the ladder.”
“That’s horrible.”
