My words were lost. I nodded. The only thing I could manage to do under the way he looked at me. My heart pounded in my chest. My mind was blank, aside from its awareness of his hand still holding my arm.

Shit.My body was betraying me as it gave in to the same feelings as our first night together. That nervous anticipation trickled through me. I was not supposed to feel like this. I had been training myselfnotto feel like this. I thought I had beenin control. I thought I had warded off the feelings of wanting this man in front of me, or at least done a damn good job in pretending. He was myboss. And an asshole at that.

But his touch had me forgetting all the reasons this was a bad idea, as his gentle hold on me spread through my body. I wanted him. And I could see in his eyes that he wanted me too. Under his gaze, I pressed my thighs together tightly as if I could ignore the throbbing that lay between them. His hand around my arm tightened slightly as he pulled me toward him. Giving in to his silent demand, my body found his, pressing his back further against the wall.

Under the darkness that covered the office, I held my breath as Jeremiah’s hands drifted up to my hair. His fingers trailed through it, gently catching on tangles as his eyes looked down at me, finding mine in the shadows. His hands moved to my face, his calloused palms brushing against my skin as they settled there. His thumbs stroked my cheeks and it took great effort not to close my eyes at his touch.

He held my face as he leaned in. I tried to pull away, but then his lips brushed against mine and it was all over. My body curved into his as my eyes fluttered closed, giving in to what I knew was a losing battle with myself. Deep down, I was coming to realize it would always be a losing battle when it came to him.

Chapter 14

Jeremiah

As my tongue ran over Sadie’s, she tasted just as I remembered. Just as I had fantasized about for several nights the past week. I couldn’t get her out of my damn head, only being able to find relief in the shower after spending the workday with her. But now, she was here, her body molded against me. I let out a low groan as my needs were finally being met. Her body pressed further into mine at the sound of it rumbling through her.

She pulled away, as if thinking better of it, her eyes looking up and finding mine. She searched them, the deep green a sea of doubt and desire.

“We shouldn’t do this,” she whispered with a shake of her head.

Her mouth had just told a different story. I knew she wanted this. I knew because her hands were still wrapped around myneck. I raised a brow and looked down at her, letting her know I was onto her.

“You’re right,” I whispered.

She looked taken aback.

“There are cameras just past the bathrooms,” I whispered, nodding in the direction of the security camera’s red light blinking in the corner.

“Oh, my God,” she said, pushing further into me to hide from it.

“We’re fine here,” I reassured her with a laugh.

“This isn’t happening.” She stepped away, pointing between me and her. “Not in a bathroom hallway.”

I smiled. So it was just the location that had her second-guessing this.

“Then meet me in my office. No cameras there,” I challenged her.

She swallowed hard. I tilted my head and put my mouth to hers, pulling her lower lip slightly with my teeth. She whimpered as I released.

“I’ll be waiting,” I said, sliding off the wall and into the darkness of the hallway. I walked toward my office, listening for her footsteps behind me. There weren’t any.

Once in my office, I sat down at my desk and began going over the schedule for the next day. I may as well be productive while I wait for Sadie to follow. A few minutes passed. I drummed my fingers impatiently against my desk. Did she leave? I peered through the open doorway, but saw nothing in the darkness of the office beyond. I frowned and went to gather my things to head home, but a soft knock at my door made me look up.

Sadie stood in the doorway unsurely. She chewed on her cheek as she looked around my office. At everywhere but me.

“Come in,” I said, amused at the formality when she had just had me pressed up against a wall.

She nodded and stepped inside.

“Close the door.”

She turned to grab the handle, hesitating slightly, before pulling it closed behind her. All the air seemed to rush from the room as she turned to face me once more.

“I was just looking over tomorrow’s schedule.” I nodded toward my computer. “Would you like to go over it?”

“Sure,” she said breathily, walking toward me and around my desk. She leaned in and her eyes scanned the color-coded screen. My eyes trailed her jawline, to her lips parted slightly in concentration. I lifted a hand and ran it slowly up the back of her thigh until it grazed her perfect ass. Her breath was shallow, but her eyes stayed fixed on the screen.

“You’ll accompany me to the 9 a.m. meeting and take notes,” I said, my hand going higher to where the hem of her pants gave way to the skin of the small of her back.
