Bruno
The moment I said the word, I knew I made a mistake.
If the earth had cracked under my feet, I would have thrown myself down to disappear from that room. But at least here she is, in my arms, with our lips sealed together, as I always wanted.
I don't want to assume that's a yes, but hopes are high.
“I love you.” I whisper in her ear, so only she can hear those words, not because I'm ashamed, it's because I want to verbalize those words directly into her ears and no one else's. Sarah blushes and lets her head drop to my chest.
Fuck, I love her to the point of insanity.
This is a moment of brightness within a huge cloudy day. But I know all good things come to an end quickly.
And I’m not wrong.
The good man opens the door of his home and no words are needed, his face is pure panic, he is so upset that his words overlap, and I can't understand the language.
But I know it's time to get out of this place.
“Dante, get the guns, we're getting out of here.”
My brother starts to hang the guns over his shoulders. Sarah does the same, the boy is already in Amira's arms.
“This way!” my brother says.
We escape through a small window in the bedroom. My body can barely get out; I have to put a lot of pressure on my limbs to get out of there. Sarah tries to hold back her screams as she comes out of the little hole, I take her in my arms and attach her to my waist.
“Try to focus the strength on your legs and hold on.” I explain grabbing her by the ass. I can’t let her run in this condition.
“No Bruno, put me down, you can't run with my weight.”
My right eyebrow goes up; she doesn't argue, she just holds on tight. “Good girl.”
“Bruno!” my brother calls me from the street corner. “This way!” I run to him while I hold Sarah.
“There they are!” a male voice shouts in his native language, I can hear him behind us.
Close.
Too close.
“There are three men,” Sarah murmurs in my ear. “Let me kill them, Bruno.”
“No, no killing, take off my watch...”
“What?” she asks with confusion.
“Just take off my damn watch!” there's no time to explain!
Dante and Amira run through the narrow corridors of Arabia. Dante takes the child from Amira's arms and now he is carrying him, his footsteps are heavy in the dusty street, the dust rises and hits my eyes. When my vision clears, Sarah rests the gun on my shoulder and fires.
My hearing temporarily affected in that ear.
“I said no killing, woman!” Why can't she follow a simple order?!
“I'm just slowing them down, relax!” I turn around for a few seconds, and two of the three men are on the ground, crying over the wounds; the third one is still coming behind us.
“For God's sake, Sarah!”
