Sarah
“Wake up! Now!”I hear Life’s voice.
My eyes are struggling to open, they're swollen and heavy. It feels like a battle of wits between my muscles and my brain. My whole body is numb and cramped, the burning in my stomach is unbearable.
God, make this pain go away.
The room I'm in is barely lighted, for which I'm grateful. The couch where my body rests is too small for my size, my feet stick out of the armrest.
“Does it hurt?” a sweet, tiny voice asks me.
I try to move my eyes to the source of that voice, and I see the kid, standing next to me, with his two small hands tangled over his stomach, it's the first time he really tries to talk and not only with monosyllables.
“Just a little bit,” I lie.
“I thought you were dead.”
So did I, kid, so did I…
“But the man threw magic water on you and you woke up.”
“Yeah, he's a true wizard.”
“But he doesn't wear a cape.” he says frowning as if the cloak were a serious matter.
“True, he doesn't wear it, I have to buy him a one as soon as we get home, don't you think?”
The boy laughs for a few moments, but then his smile disappears.
“What's your name?” I ask.
“Benjamin, but my friends call me Ben.”
“Can I call you Ben then?”
“Yes, because you are my friend, like the wizard who rescued me.”
Speaking of the wizard where is he?
“My name is Sarah.” I tell him without knowing what else to say.
“And what do your friends call you?” he asks.
Kiddo?
“My friends call me Sar.”
“Sar? That’s the best you come up with?”Life adds.
“Just Sar? That's boring.”
My laughter comes out of my throat, but the pain travels through my body makes me shut up again.
“Sarah?!” I heard Bruno's beautiful voice behind me; the boy walks away, and Bruno takes his place, holding my hand tightly. “How do you feel?”
“Like I've been shot.” I answer. “What happened?” That's all I want to know.
“We managed to escape from the compound, but we can't stay here long, eventually they're going to find us.”
