She stretches out her hand and holds my cheek, her hands are warm, the color of her face is already normal.
“I'm not going anywhere, no one is going to steal me or confuse me, I'm yours forever, you hear?”
Relief comes like a cold breeze on a hot day, my green eyes look for the blue in hers, she knows how important those words are to me.
“We shouldn't have talked here, but when I walked in and saw that idiot breathing on your face, I thought I was going crazy.”
“I'm sorry you found out this way, I eventually wanted to tell you, but—”
“Quiet, you don't have to explain anything to me, I understand.”
I look at my future wife with admiration. She went from Cassandra to Sarah in a few years. Now Sarah has grown beautifully, she is a true fighter, a gladiator even. Written on her body are the battles she had fought and won. I remember how fragile she was and how desperate I was and still am for her.
The exchange with Rage wasn’t something unexpected, I knew he was going to show up sooner rather than later.
I always suspected that something had happened between the two of them, hearing directly from him, fills me with great pain, but could I blame her? I promised her protection and guidance, and all I did was leave her alone.
“Where is Carter?” she asks.
“I don’t know.”
“Don’t be mad at him, he is just trying to figure out where to belong.”
“I know, I know.” I don’t know what bothers me the most, the fact that she’s right or that Rage and her are on the same page.

Two days went by.
Sarah is getting better and better, she laughs and sleeps all the time because of the drugs Ian gives her. I spend my nights with her, but during the day I go house hunting. I need to have a new place for us, a new start before she can walk again. Carter usually looks after her when I’m not here, we haven’t talk things through yet, but I’m gonna try today.
I enter the dark room and they are chatting; I can’t believe how awake Sarah looks. The last two days she looked like a hippie from the 70s because of the drugs Ian gave her.
When Carter sees me, he gets up and says goodbye to her; he nods at me and closes the door.
Sarah pretends to have a horrible cough and points out to me with her head the path my cousin took.
“We agreed that acting is not your thing,” I say. “but I get it.”
I grab the doorknob and leave the room; I have things to fix.
“Carter,” I call him, on his back it says ‘Hollywood’ and underneath ‘Soulless Basters’, what a stupid name for a MC.
He turns, confused.
“Listen...I had time to think things thorough and you're right, I can't tell you how to live your life and—”
“No cuz, shut up...”
“No. I was an idiot, I'm sorry I reacted that way, I was just...I felt a little excluded. If you're happy with them, then I am happy too.”
Carter smiles, showing his perfect face.
“It's been a long time since I've felt comfortable with a group of people, but you’re my family and look, now it's gotten bigger.”
My cousin approaches me and hugs me tightly.
