It's him, it's him!
I dart my eyes towards Dante, but only briefly.
He gets it.
He shots his gaze over and focuses on Dante.
Something clicked inside Bruno’s head. His eyes are no longer enraged and just turned soft.
His breathing becomes shallow and he recognizes his little brother. After, ten long years of believing he was dead.
Tears are welling up in my eyes and I fight them back, I can’t cry, not here at least.
In return, Dante looks puzzled at his big brother.
Only he doesn’t seem to recognize him.
“Maybe it’s the beard, because I can tell you he aged very well,”Life adds.
Dante studies Bruno like one would study an unknown map. I’m sure he must recognize traces of the past in Bruno’s eyes. Shortly after, he looks down and returns to his place without saying a word, not even an explanation about our weird exchange.
We can't make a move here, it’s too dangerous to risk it all right now, after coming this far. Somebody is always watching, and we’re not exactly alone. We need to return to the main event with the intel we just got and assess our next move, but Bruno is unexpectedly floored by the shock of seeing his brother in the flesh.
I gently pull his arm a little and bring him back to me.
He grabs my leash and softly pulls it and we leave the creepy room behind while I look over my shoulder, in order to get a good look of him one more time.
He’s still looking down at the floor, his expression is not hard anymore.
Look at me, Dante! Look at me!I scream inside.
He does look at me with anguished eyes. “We are here for you,” I mouth, hoping he can read lips.
I see Dante hesitating to respond, but something or someone rather makes him stop.
Then I feel it, a pair of eyes right in front of me.
Wasim is standing at the door.
