“I know this is challenging, but you need to listen to me now. Someone will approach you soon.”

“W-who?” her tremulous voice makes me want to jump on the first plane to Europe.

“I don’t know; it could be the same man or another asshole. Do not open that door, and don’t talk to anyone until you feel better. Do you understand?”

“Yes, but why? Why would they do something like this?”

“Sarah, you need to focus. Remember, you only trust Carter and me. No one else, unless we say so. No matter how good they sound or how much help they claim they can provide. Do. Not. Trust. Them,” I emphasize.

“What will happen if I let them in?” Sarah’s confused, terrified.

“They are going to take you away. That’s bad,” I say.

Carter hits my hand, and I release the push to talk button of the mic. “What the fuck is wrong with you? Why would you tell her that? She’s going to freak the fuck out!” he accuses with taut words. A vein pops out in his neck, and his eyes widen.

“She needs to know how serious this is! We only have a few more minutes to get her ready before someone approaches her!”

“Rage…are you s-still there?” she asks.

“I’m here, kiddo. I’m not going anywhere.”

“I bet t-that if you were here, you’d take advantage of me while I’m under the effects of whatever this is. Right?” she jokes.

I smile to myself. “You are more coherent than you let on…” I concede and laugh.

Carter doesn’t like that one bit.

“I’m a smart girl I knew you’d say that, and that’s why you like me,” she slurs.

“That you are, but let’s set the record straight. I like you because of your tits. Period.”

Sarah laughs just like a fucked-up, high-as-a-kite person would.

Knock-knock.

Fuck, that was fast. Someone is there already, and she’s not ready yet.

“Hello?” says an unknown voice.

“Say nothing, and do not make a noise,” I instruct her.

Knock-knock.

“Cass? Are you okay?” the stranger asks.

Cass? This fucker is trying to pose as if he knows her.

“Keep it quiet. You are doing fine.”

We hear a rattling noise.

“Sarah, what is going on? What is that noise?” Carter looks at me with uneasy eyes.

She doesn’t say anything. Fuck, has she passed out?

“Is he trying to open the door? Sarah? Sarah?”

A subtle and barely audible reply comes. “Yes.”
