I get to work.
Chapter Eighteen
SARAH
Ten fucking hours.
Ten!
I’ve been on this plane for so long, and I’m in a nasty mood already. Why? Well, that’s easy and painful to explain.
Let’s see…
My back hurts, and I can’t find a comfortable position on this goddamned seat to make my pain a little better. I swear these seats are getting tighter and tighter. My limbs ache because of this.
My fingers look like sausages, and my feet are even worse. I made the mistake of taking off my shoes and there’s no way I can fit them back on again.
The blankets that are handed out are meant to keep passengers warm but they are cheap and don’t work, and please, don’t even get me started on the pillows.
God, I sound like a little prick.
It’s dark outside the window. I against it to observe the night sky and the stars. I cover the area between my eyes and the window with my hands to block the light that’s coming from my neighbor’s seat. The man is sleeping with the reading light on and the book over his chest.
Don’t be that person.
On the aisle seat, there’s a bored teenage boy, listening to music while his dad sleeps on the other side of the aisle like there’s no problem at all. I can’t understand how some people pull it off.
I swear, flying is a bane for everyone – if you are flying couch that is.
This is a necessary evil.
That’s what I keep telling myself.
The engines make a constant hum that sometimes serves as background noise, but I’m too annoyed and need to block it out with music.
I grab my headphones, put them on andDay Tripperstarts playing, relaxing me almost immediately until I fall asleep.
Oh, Darling, wakes me up from my nap. I check my watch and realize four hours have gone by. That’s a good nap if I ever had one. Especially on this plane.
The cabin lights are on already, and the flight attendant is offering the passengers breakfast.
Finally, some food!
My stomach growls in agreement.
I yawn so hard my jaw almost pops out of place. I can’t wait to get out of this pressurized canister, stretch my legs, and get some fresh air.
The food is wrapped in aluminum foil which keeps it hot. I don’t know what it is yet, but I’ll take it.
TheSun Kingis already out and shining through the windows, I browse my playlist for that very song. It relaxes me.

The captain announced the start of our descent thirty minutes ago, and we are landing now.
As soon as the plane hits the ground, all passengers stand up and start to shuffle around, trying to get their belongings to disembark. Where do they get all that energy from? That’s a million-dollar question.
I pass customs, and my next task is searching for a taxi. Luckily a ton are waiting outside.
