“After you,” I add, trying to show a careless attitude though I’m about to internally freak out.

Sarah is going to Saudi Arabia, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.

Fuck…

Fuck!

Chapter Eleven

SARAH

“What the fuck…”

Carter and Rage are both standing on my porch with their arms crossed and radiating a bad attitude.

“We need to talk,” Rage says without looking me in the eyes.

“Is this some kind of intervention?” I ask while heading toward the living room.

They come in like they own the place, and I’m their property. I sit on the couch and Rage stands in front of me. He’s so tall my neck hurts when I try to look at him. Carter leans on a piece of furniture to his left.

“About that answer I told you to really think about earlier. Well, I don’t really need your answer, because I already know what you’re going to say, and I will help you.

Carter coughs loudly on purpose.

Rage rolls his eyes. “Weare going to help you.” He frowns at Carter. “But first you have to understand something.”

“And what is that?” I ask in a condescending tone. I can’t believe what he is saying.

“Once you find Bruno, you’re on your own.”

“I can do it alone.”

“No, you can’t,” Carter remarks. “If I’m going to lose my cousin over this, then at the very least I will try to keep you alive.”

I’m looking at Carter, but I feel Rage’s eyes fixated on me.

“Are you both coming with me?” I won’t lie; I do need them to do this with me.

“Nope, we have business to attend, plus going there is your decision, not ours. We’re going to help you from here,” Rage answers.

“Gotcha,” I reply though I’m terrible at trying to conceal my feelings when these two are in the same room with me.

Rage notices my disappointment and approaches me.

Carter watches him closely. Why’s he looking at him like that?

“We need to come up with a plan. I have contacts in the Middle East. Are you still positive you want to do this? Because I really can make this happen.”

“I’ve been watching videos online of people being beheaded in every fucking town square because they just told a lie, and I still wanna go, so yeah, I’m pretty positive,” I confess.

Carter steps forward. “You are fucking crazy, you know that, Sarah? You understand that you will face a lot of shitty situations?”

“If you’ve been following me all this time, then you know that I graduated with flying colors. I was top of my class. You don’t think I have what it takes to face this?”

He remains silent, because he can’t tell me the truth, he really believes that I am not prepared.

He sighs. “Let’s go. We got shit to do.” His words are not directed to me – they are intended for Rage.
