“It’s not magic,” I say, shaking my head. “It’s just kindness.”

“Might as well be magic in this hellhole,” he mumbles. “Let’s go.”

CHAPTER 23

Rage

Pain.

All I know is pain.

They keep hurting me. It just makes me angry.

So angry.

Where is she?! What have you done with her!? Bring her back!

Words swim through my head. But even if they weren’t shocking me with those sticks of theirs, I wouldn’t be able to say them.

All that leaves me are loud roars.

Blood drips down from my wrists and ankles.

I’ve fought hard.

Tried to get out. To escape.

So I can findher.

All I remember was themhurtingher. Her screams. Her body shaking with pain.

I don’t care what they do to me.

I have to find her.

I have to save her.

Protect her.

Becauseshe’smine.

I don’t know why I think that.

I justknow.

The older guard glances down at his phone. He takes a break from shocking me.

I catch my breath, watching the two of them warily.

“Damn, Norman is sending Rowan in to deal with this mess,” the older guard says, shoving his phone away into his back pocket.

“Seriously?” The younger guard says. “Does he want his kid dead?”

“I don’t know. But he’s on his way here now.”

“With the omega?”

“Yeah, sounds like it.”
