I let out a small huff of laughter at their jumbled answers.
“What’s got you thinking that, of all things, Sugar?” Rowan asks, sliding into bed in front of me and resting a hand on my waist.
“I was just wondering whether you’re doing this ‘cause it’s me or ‘cause you guys want to help an omega.”
“I think I understand why you think that way, Sweetheart,” Griffin says, his hand squeezing my thigh possessively. “The facility you were raised in sounds like a fucking shithole. But you have to understand thatyouare special to us. Does me being an alpha and Rowan being a beta matter to you?”
“No,” I answer automatically.
“It’s the same with you being an omega.” He pauses for asecond, his hand drifting up to grip my hip. “Though I think we’d both be lying through our teeth if we didn’t admit there’re definitely certain perks to you being an omega.”
“Like?”
“Your intoxicating scent, for one,” Rowan jumps in, pressing a gentle kiss against my forehead.
“I know your heat wasn’t what it should’ve been, this time around, but I promise, next time, we’ll really make it magical,” Griffin says.
“Next time will it hurt like this one did?” I ask quietly.
“No. We’ll make sure of it,” Griffin says, his voice low.
As my heart rate slows and I settle into the sensations of my body, I start to notice that the feeling of my skin being too tight for my body is slowly easing.
“I think it’s working,” I say, blinking up at Rowan as my eyelids grow heavy.
“Really? That’s awesome!” He says, a broad grin crossing his face. There are bags under his eyes. He’s barely been sleeping. Hopefully, now that this is all over we can get some actual sleep.
“Good. You should get some more rest, Sweetheart, I know we woke you up from your nap.”
“Okay, you guys should get some sleep too,” I say.
CHAPTER 36
Rage
Iknow why they gave me my name.
Rage.
I’m starting to remember.
The world is two things: black and white or painted red.
And it feels like everything is dripping red.
The only thing that was the good kind of red washer.
Her hair was the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.
And theytook her away from me.
I don’t understand where she’s been taken. All I know is that they’re hurting her.
Rowan is angry. Scared. Gone.
I don’t mind him. He’s not mean. But he’s abandoned us. Abandoned me.
My shoulder throbs. It’s a mass of bruises. Sometimes I can’t help but throw myself at that door to try and get out. Try to escape.
