So did Braeden and Lillianna Walker.
Autumn sighed and scrolled down to Braeden's number.
Nico was right.
She needed to let them explain how everything went down. It was only fair.
She was about to hit his name when a text message popped up on her screen from an unknown number.
Unknown: Is she familiar?
Below that, a video materialized.
Autumn covered her mouth with a shaking hand. It was Reagan. Her arms were tied behind her back, a gag tied around her head, and her legs tied to the legs of a bolted table.
He worked that fast.
Elijah: What do you say? A trade? You for her.
Autumn: Why are you doing this?
Elijah: Because I can.
Elijah: How is your cousin by the way? Is she still alive?
He was referring to Scarlett. Was getting rid of her part of the plan all along?
Autumn’s blood chilled.
Scarlett was a distraction.
There was no other way Elijah could pull off taking Reagan. They hadn’t needed the M.E. at the crime scene where the police found Scarlett. Unless Reagan was working on something else? Autumn knew there were more medical examiners didn’t only work homicides. There was also a whole listing for different issues in the city.
He'd targeted Reagan.
She looked at the short video again and saw the indifference in the woman’s posture. Her eyes were closed, and she was breathing normally. Autumn knew appearances were deceiving.
Reagan was terrified.
Autumn wouldn’t allow this monster to kill another innocent person.
Autumn: Where are you?
Elijah: Isn’t that the question? Follow the coordinates. And no cops. You won’t like the consequences.
After he sent her the numbers, Autumn waited for another message, but nothing came.
She put the phone down.
She picked it back up and scrolled through the message to the video of a bound Reagan.
“You are responsible for them. They’re here because of you.”
The voice entered her mind once more. She shook her head, tilted her chin to look up at the ceiling. “No, I’m not.”
Autumn pocketed her phone. No cops. And who the hell knew how many traps Elijah had waiting for her?
She couldn’t do this on her own.
