And then another woman appeared, with long, curly red hair and she swayed on her feet. The man reached up…did he have gloves on? Then he righted her as another figure opened the door.
A breath caught in her throat at the familiar shape. It could be her except for the blonde hair. Why would anyone believe this woman was her? Autumn never dyed her hair, nor wore a wig to the club.
Navarro leaned to the side and glanced at the video. “Yeah, looks like you, except for the hair.”
The door to the room opened. The light switched on. Scarlett’s face was visible, staring back at her partner before all three were in the room and the door closed.
Autumn swayed backward.
Hands closed on her shoulders to keep her upright.
She took a deep breath, then opened her eyes.
“What’s wrong, Autumn?”
“She looks like she saw a ghost.”
Why are you doing this, Scarlett? Who is helping you?
“Thirty grand, it’s my final offer.”
“Is that all this woman is worth?” The German accent thickened at the end of the question. His slate gray eyes picked up the agreement then looked back at the woman. “Why not, fifty?”
The woman scowled back at him, “Do you want a job or not? Thirty is all I can give you.”
He picked up a picture, “Where do I find thisfraulein?”
“In Chelsea Towers across from Central Park.” The woman shrugged, careful not to dislodge the black wig she wore, “I’m sure you can find her somewhere. She works with the police. And she’s been on television.”
The woman had to take matters into her own hands.
Her partner was obsessed with Autumn and the eyes. A shudder rushed through her body. She thought this would be simple. Instead, he was making this more complicated. They now had a trail of two dead bodies, and he wanted to add another to this fiasco.
If it weren’t for her suffering company, she wouldn’t be in this predicament. Daddy told her she used all the money from her trust fund. He didn’t have another cent to give since he was up to his ears in debt.
But she knew how to fix this. With Autumn’s death, both her and her father would be wealthy beyond measure. Autumn was the baby. Both of their grandparents left an immeasurable amount of money to her.
The only way to get the money was to see Autumn dead.
“Forty.”
The woman pursed her lips. If this man was successful, she didn’t have to worry about money problems. And she could get away from her sick partner.
She smiled slowly. “Deal.”
Chapter 8
Autumnlookedlikeadoll playing dress up.
That’s how she looked to Nico at the moment as she stared out the window, exactly like she had earlier. She never took off the red “fuck me” dress, either. Whatever Autumn had seen in that video on Blue’s computer screen had made her mute since they left Cat Tails.
Nico stood next to her, half looking out the window as he studied Autumn’s profile. The moonlight shone on her, highlighting the lighter blonde strands of her hair. His fingers itched to touch her, but he refrained for now.
“Penny for your thoughts,” he mused.
“She hated me.”
Nico’s eyebrows furrowed, “Your sister?”
