“Are you afraid I’ll retaliate? I can assure you I won’t. You can leave if you want. It’ll cause me some issues, but they won’t take long to solve. It’s not the first time I’ve had to face reality when it comes to you.”
It felt like a punch in the gut to hear him say that. As if it’d only be a matter of time until she’d be replaced. She’d be damned before she gave him the chance to.
“I won’t. Idon’twant to leave.”
“Are you sure?”
Her eyes took him in.
He looked so wickedly tempting: hair neatly combed, dark eyes dancing, and that mouth...
“Y-Yes,” she finally breathed. “I’m sure.”
Nicolas tilted his head, analyzing her. His gaze flickered to her lips for a millisecond causing butterflies to erupt in her stomach.
She wanted him to kiss her again.
This was the perfect timing.
Please, please, please?—
“Why are you staring at me like that?” He snapped her out of her desire-filled chant.
“As if you don’t know.”
As soon as the words left, she clamped a hand over her mouth. She hadn’t meant to say that out loud.
His eyebrows raised at her tone.
Emily blinked. “I’m sorry. That was?—”
“If I didn’t know better,” he purred, stepping forwardand causing her core to tighten. “I’d think you know exactly what you’re doing.”His fingers raised and traced her bottom lip.
She sucked in a breath.
“Tell me I’m wrong,” he murmured. “Tell me you’re not a master of seduction. Tell me you’re not trying to reel me in with this act of innocence.”
“A m-master of—” she sputtered. “I’m not. I’m far from that actually. I’ve never…never even doneitbefore.”
Nicolas looked like she’d poured a bucket of ice water over him. “What?”
She blinked. Oh God, why did she find it important to tell him that now?
His Adam’s apple bobbed. “You mean?—”
“Yes, I’m a virgin.”
Might as well finish what she’d started.
He looked like the walls were caving in. Her eyes stayed on him. To spot any misplaced emotions, but all she witnessed was a tinge of fear—horror.
“Fuck me. Fuck me a thousand times,” he whispered in slight panic.
She couldn’t help but find it amusing.
His hand combed through his hair, eyes meeting hers. “You wouldn’t lie about something like this, would you?”
She frowned deeply. “Why would I?”
