Emily’s index finger raised swiftly in indignation. He saw the outburst slicing through her composure. Then she blinked, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “I know what I’m doing.”
“Oh, really? Because it didn’t look like that five minutes ago.”
Nicolas wanted to stop acting like this. But it hit him so hard. Emily standing in the middle of the chaos; cameras flashing, voices spitting derision at her. Something inside him snapped.
They didn’t know her.
The urge to shut them up, to make them eat their filthy words, surged through him with a force that made no sense. But it also did at the same time.
Her lips made a thin line. “I thought the contract stated we’d not interfere in each other’s personal affairs,” she reminded him tersely. “Mr. Re, I never took you to not be a man of your word.”
Nicolas reeled from the blow.
Is she really allowing her agency to walk over her like this?
It was obvious that they’d set her up with this invitation mishap. By the expression on her face, Nicolas guessed she was that much of a pushover. One that he’d married. For the first time ever, he was embarrassed by that fact.
“Fine. If that’s what you want. But if this happens again, don’t expect me to lift a finger to get you out of it.”
Lie,a part of him hissed. The part that never failed to point the act out.
“I understand.” Her voice was disturbingly calm.
“Good night, Emily,” he gritted out.
Nicolas left before he said what he really wanted to. That he’d thought she was smarter than this. Wiser. Stronger. The kind of woman who wouldn’t let herself be paraded around and picked apart. Especially not in public.
But she had.
And fuck him for caring this much about it.

Stella4Life says:I don’t know about you guys, but Emily being a nepo baby tells me all I need to know.
StellaSaidSoreply to @Stella4Life:You’re right. Funny how she only gets press when Stella’s name is involved.
Stellalover69 reply to @Stella4Life:She’s trying so hard to be Stella, it’s embarrassing.
Pinaulter143 reply to @Stella4Life:Can y’all borrow a brain cell and stop making stuff up? Stella herself admitted she stole Emily’s invitation. Sorry, invitations! She even used her hiatus as an excuse but the truth is Stella couldn’t get invited to these events. So, be mad at your fave for her incompetency instead of targeting the victim.
StellaSceneStealer reply to @Pinaulter143:No surprise you share the same victim mentality as your idol.

Emily sat in her living room, unfazed.
Growing up in this industry taught her a thing or two about thick skin. It didn’t always hold, but this time she managed not to let their gossip get to her.
Chelsea came over because she was worried. She walked the length of the room for the tenth time. “Aren’t you the least bit concerned that they’re talking about you like this?”
“Not really,” Emily stated after muting the television.
“Well,Iam! We have to do something,” she panted. “Let them know it’s unacceptable even if it’s online! Damn keyboard warriors. I know you’re not the type of person, but you should really consider suing for defamation.”
Emily giggled for the first time today, leaning back. “You’ve re-enrolled into law school and you think you’ve passed the bar exam. Sure, Chels, I’ll sue theentire countryfor defamation.”
