“Exactly.”

Chapter Forty-Five

AUDRA

I don’t rememberwhat I was going to say. I’m losing my mind with every single touch. When his finger dips inside, I want to die of mortification. I’m so wet. It’s pathetic.

Fantastic first-impression energy, Audra.

“God, you’re drenched for me.” He says it with such reverence I forget to be shy. “Everything about you is perfect.”

Oh, how I wish I was perfect—but I’m glad he sees me that way.

His finger starts to move inside me and I don’t bother holding back the moan. He urges me to spread my legs, and I do, thoughtlessly, unconsciously, letting him see everything, every single part of me. He adds a second finger and I nearly come.

“Please, Derek, not that way. Not our first time,” I plead.

I’d like to survive the emotional implications, thanks.

“Shh. Whatever you want. Whatever you want.”

“I want you.”

He nods, then reaches into the nightstand and pulls out a new box of condoms.

I stare.

“I was hopeful.”

“What if we’d gone to my place?”

“I’ve got a matching box in my suit coat pocket.”

Of course he does.

Prepared. Thoughtful. Infuriatingly responsible.

He rolls the condom on and lays between my thighs, holding up his weight with his forearms.

“Audra.”

I nod.

“Are you really sure? This changes everything.”

I nod again.

“I need to hear it.”

“Yes, Derek. I want this. I want you.”

He swallows hard and nods.

“I know what this means,” he tells me, his big hand resting against my cheek.

His eyes lock onto mine as he positions himself at my entrance and slowly pushes forward, pausing.

“It’s been a while,” I tell him.
