Xan smacks Jace. "What are you waiting for? Get the bag, idiot!"
"Jeez, Pee Pants. Get a move on," Sera chides.
Jace gives her a look and she gasps. "I heard that!"
He runs from the room. Smart man.
Another contraction and the last one barely ended. "Oh no."
Xan nods. "Oh nois right. You're a minute apart. Somehow I don't see you making it to the hospital."
"Oh boy," Lucy says. "Mrs. M! We'll need clean linens, towels, boiling water-I don't know what the water's for, but that's what they say on TV! Oh, and something to clamp off the cord."
I laugh. "I'm not having this baby here. There's no one trained to deliver it."
Lucy dials her phone and puts it on speaker. "Dr. Mac, detour to CFD. She's less than a minute apart."
"I'm not going to make it in time," he tells her.
I groan from another contraction and in fear. No Dr. Mac. "You promised!"
He sighs. "I'm sorry, Summer. I'll do my best, but traffic is horrendous. I'll get off the freeway and take side roads."
"Will it be faster?" Lucy asks.
"I have no idea," he replies, "but we've gotta try."
Jace comes in with the bag, and another that's a huge suitcase. I want to laugh but it hurts too much. "What's the suitcase for?"
"I don't know, but this little bag didn't seem like it had enough stuff in it," he answers.
Lucy nods. "Did you grab the bulb syringe?"
Jace jerks back. "There are no needles in here."
Lucy rolls her eyes. "The booger sucker."
"What the fuck do you need a booger sucker for?" Jace asks.
"Summer's having the baby here," Lucy announces.
Jace drops the bags, jaw dropping. "Say what now?"
"Dr. Mac is on the way, but he likely won't make it in time. We're gonna have to deliver the baby ourselves," Lucy tells him, rubbing his arm.
"No," he whispers. "I can't do that."
"No one is expectingyouto. You just need to keep Summer comfortable," Xan tells him.
"You're not looking at my wife's vagina," Jace tells Xan.
"If he needs to he will," I shout through the pain.
"Eww," Kadi says. "Mama Summer's leaking."
"Fuuuck," Jesse growls. "Linc, Ethan, go get that blow up bed and a bunch of pillows. We'll set it up by the fireplace." They run from the room muttering to one another.
Sera sets her fork down. "Your baby thinks it's funny."
