SERA
Nana strides over—more like glides. She's so graceful and beautiful, but something's off. She's good at blocking so I can't tell what it is, but it's not good. Something with her health.
"Don't be intrusive, Serafina," she scolds.
"It's loud, whatever it is," I reply.
Nana tsks.
"Let's fix that, shall we?"
"Please. Can you fix the chocolate thing?" I beg.
Nana laughs. "I'm not a miracle worker. That's a pregnancy thing, not a mojo thing."
"Damn it," I mutter.
"It'll be okay, Fee," Cage tells me.
I nod. "I know, but months without chocolate."
"Maybe longer," Lucy corrects.
My eyes widen in horror. "What?"
"Breast feeding, if you choose to go that route. Also, factor in time for your body to get back to where it was," she tells me.
"No," I whisper, turning to Cage. I'd like to curse at him, but I won't. I love him and I love our baby. I can't wait to see him love him or her, hold them in his arms, kiss their forehead. I sigh. "It's worth it."
Cage rubs my back. It's a sign of love and respect for him to touch me in public like this. He's normally not a touchy-feely man in front of others, but since we found out about the pregnancy, he's been extra affectionate. I love it. I hope he continues with it after the baby's born.
"He will," Nana whispers.
"Now who's being intrusive?" I scold.
"You're projecting very loudly."
"I'm trying not to. It's the baby…"
Nana nods. "It's like Lily. Let's see here." She places her hands on my abdomen. "Sweet baby, we need to tone things down a bit. You're overpowering your mama and we can't have that. She's the boss of her own body."
Suddenly the buzzing that's been in my ears for months is gone. I sigh aloud. "Oh, that's so great."
Nana nods. "You're in trouble, Serafina. This child is going to be best friends with Kierah, and you know how she likes to cause trouble."
"Lucy," I say, turning to my sister. "You better control that girl of yours. I just know she's going to teach her all of the sassiest things."
Lucy laughs. "If she doesn't, I will!"
I gasp. "You wouldn't!"
"Don't think I don't know who taught the four of them how to give the looks so they could get the Halloween candy," I tell her with a look.
"Well," Sera says, picking invisible lint off of her pants.
Nana snickers. "You two. You better be careful or it'll come back to bite you."
