“Let him go please,” Celeste requests of me. Dave immediately takes off into the desert.

“You’re not counting,” I tell her.

She shrugs. “I can still see him clearly. I’d have lost the white shirt.”

I nod.

“Well, he’s far enough.” She lifts her gun and shoots three times, all direct hits. Dave drops to the ground like a sack of potatoes. She removes the silencer, and places both it and the gun back in her clutch.

“You’ve got him?” she asks the guys. They nod. She looks at me. “Shall we?”

I hold out an elbow for her. “Let’s.”

When we’re rounding the corner I lean in and whisper, “That was fucking hot.”

She smiles and winks. “I know.”

ETHAN

I’m not sure what happened to Dave, but I can guess. Damian came around the corner with Celeste on his arm. From the look in their eyes, they were causing trouble and enjoying every second of it.

“I want to practice shooting,” I tell Linc.

He lifts a brow.

I shrug.

“This, Ethan, it isn’t for you. You’d never forgive yourself if you killed someone,” he tells me.

“I can still shoot stuff,” I mutter.

“Hell yeah, you can. We’ll go to the range. Just don’t go with Sera. She’s a showoff.”

I laugh at that.

“Is it time to go in yet?” I ask, pulling at the collar tight around my neck.

“Lucy’s almost here.”

I nod. I can wait. This is a big deal for our Lucy.

“Think she’ll ever go back to making movies?” I ask Jesse.

He shrugs. “I don’t know. She said maybe if she got the right script and the right co-star.”

“How’d you feel about that?” Linc asks.

Jesse looks over. “Petrified. There are a lot of what ifs that go along with Lucy going back to acting.”

I nod. “I can see that, but I don’t think she sees any what ifs when she looks at you.”

“You think?” he asks.

Linc smacks him. “Idiot.”

Jesse smirks. Lucy looks over and her eyes find him immediately. The love shining in them is so easy to see.
