JILLIE
Monday morning I’m not feeling any better about things. I’ve heardnothingfrom Leo—my so-called boyfriend.
Elan walks up. “Hey, you okay? You look kinda pale.”
“I’m not feeling so hot,” I tell him, and it’s not a lie. I truly feel sick to my stomach. I can’t tell if it’s nerves or if I’m sick.
Audrey reaches up and touches my forehead. “Oh man, you’ve got a fever.”
“Let me see,” Isla offers. Her eyes widen. “Wow. You should take something. I think I have some fever reducer.” She digs through her purse and hands me a couple tablets. I swallow them down with water and put the bottle back in my locker.
“Where’s Leo?” Elan asks.
I shrug. “Where’s Gianna?”
He shrugs. “She’s home, sick.”
“Really. Maybe it’s going around.”
“Yeah,” Isla says. “Maybe that’s why you haven’t heard from Leo.”
“Wait, what?” Elan asks, frowning.
I blow out a breath and rest the side of my face against the cold metal locker next to mine. That feels so good.
Audrey relays things—including the night of sex—and Elan’s face turns from concern to fury as he looks at something behind me.
I know what it is before I even see it… but, I turn anyway. There it is. Ella hanging on Leo, and him laughing at something she says—with his arm around her waist.
“What the fuck?” Audrey yells.
Everyone looks over.
“Lovely. Just lovely.” I don’t want the attention. Damn it.
“Here they come,” Elan tells me.
I just close my eyes and put my face back on the metal locker. The cold metal feels amazing against my heated face.
I feel a point-nailed tap on my shoulder. Opening my eyes, I see venom in Audrey’s eyes, Isla’s fists are clenched, and Elan puts a hand on my other shoulder, turning me into his side.
“Jillie,” Ella begins.
“What do you want?” I ask flatly—as flatly as the expression on Leo’s face. Nothing. No emotion.
This is going to suck.
“Um, you know Leo just—”
“Just stop,” I interrupt. “If Leo has something to say to me, he can say it himself.” I don’t look away from his face. Finally, his gaze slides to mine. Nothing. I still see nothing.
“It’s not going to work.”
I nod. “Uh huh.”
“Look, it was fun. I got what I wanted, and I won the bet,” Leo tells me.
