“They always find a way to get you,” Elan tells me.
“Thank you,” I say with much sarcasm. “I knew that already, but the memory is becoming more vivid now. Hottie E, you just scared your Foxy J.”
“I’ll protect you,” Elan says.
I shake my head and laugh. “All that means is you’ll die first.”
“That’s the truth,” Brent agrees. “Stephen King is a killer and thriller genius.”
“He so is.”
“Nerds,” Carlos teases.
“You should read his books. You get so much more out of them than you do with the movie. But that’d mean you’d have to pick up a book and actually…” I gasp, “read!”
“Does he even know how?” Elan taunts.
“Nice,” Carlos replies.
Ellen’s made her way over to Leo’s table and her and Fawn are having words.
“Oh boy.” I look to Elan. “Can we go? You can come over and we’ll watch a movie or something since it’s still early.” It’s only ten-thirty.
“We’re all coming,” Audrey announces.
I nod. “Let me call my Aunt Ruthie and make sure she’s cool with it. If she’s got a date there, I’m not walking in on them banging on the living room floor or something.”
“Eww,” Isla says at the same time as Carlos says, “Hell yeah. Get it, Auntie.”
Aunt Ruthie says it’s okay and the night ends with the six of us binging on soda and microwave popcorn. I don’t know what time I fell asleep, but I do know I was half on top of Elan when I did, and he was holding me tight.
I really liked how that felt. What does that mean?
