I nod again, in disbelief yet not completely shocked, because, why not?

“Ellen and her friends also have theserules,” Audrey begins. “They are the definition of Mean Girls.”

“Great. Lovely. What rules?”

“One, they don’t date anyone who isn’t worth as much or more than they are.”

“Seriously?” I ask.

Isla nods. “For real.”

“Two,” Audrey continues, “they only date Academy. Three, there are four of them and no one else is welcome in the group. Four, they will defend one another viciously. Five, they’ve been known to do horrible things to people they target—not just physically.”

What the hell? “Like what?”

“Stealing clothes during gym, messing with your locker, putting dye in your shampoo,” Isla informs me.

“Ohmigod. That’scrazy.”

They both nod.

“Textbook definition,” Audrey says pointing at Ellen.

Karma, I think we’re even now.

I swear I hear a whisper say, “Not by a long shot.”
