Without a word, I do as he tells me and grip his scales to climb up his massive back. Once I’m settled, legs on either side of his neck, my booty on his shoulders, I find purchase and hold on to him as he takes off, flapping his wings, taking to the sky.
Sighing heavily, I close my eyes, and for the first time in so long, I allow myself to be. Be in the moment. Enjoy flying above the world. Baba roars and shoots flames into the sky, making me laugh.
Shortly after, two more dragons joined us. I recognize one of them as Cason. I didn’t see him shift but a few times, but I knew his coloring was similar to our grandfather’s.
The second dragon, though, I didn’t recognize, but I knew the coloring of it as well as the look. It’s the same as the one I have tattooed on my body.
Oh no.
No. No. No.
When the dragon’s eyes meet mine, I see the fire burning within them and feel myself being drawn in, unable to look away.
I finally manage to fight the pull of his gaze and look upward into the sky before curling into my grandfather’s scales. My heart is racing. My mind is spinning. My body is demanding I betray what I’ve told myself for so long.
This can’t be happening.
I did not just meet the one meant to be my mate.
The one above all else.
I seriously need to get back on the ground and get the hell out of here before it’s too late for me and I find myself married to a dragon.

Beingin the sky is just what I needed. This past week was nothing more than a pain in my ass while dealing with the asswipe who ordered the custom blades and bullets coated in a wolf’s bane. They didn’t end up getting the order in the end.
When Brimstone, Flame, Boot, and I showed, we all knew we wouldn’t be leaving the crates behind. Instead, we took the guy’s money for wasting our time and took off. We did, however, unload the cargo on another ally of ours who didn’t appreciate the free product. Hell, they offered to pay for it on top of what we already took from the other guy. Brimstone informed them it was a lesson learned for the asswipe who thought he could fuck with us.
The club doesn’t mind making products that are deadly, but if we get the sense that you’re gonna fuck with the club, we’ll fuck hard and make it hurt that much more.
Now that we’re back home, I’m about to chill the fuck out and fly. I love being on the back of my bike and with my brothers, but sometimes a dragon just needs to fly.
While we were gone, we’d found out Inferno and Francie were mates. Without the mating mark, it’s not easy to find fated mates. The woman, depending on whether she’s human or not, depends on her age. Francie just hit twenty-nine, which is the age for humans when it comes to dragon shifters.
Needing to take flight, I’m not surprised when Inferno joins me seconds later. The two of us have flown together often in the past years since he joined the club. One of his duties as a member of the club is to take to the skies, like me, patrol the territory and report anything that he might see. When neither of us can do it, the club has drones to do the job, but we’re better at spotting abnormalities than those pieces of shit electronics.
I can’t hear Inferno’s thoughts, and he can’t hear mine, but the two of us are in sync with one another to the point we know what each other is going to do before we do it when it comes to flying in these skies.
If we were related, even through a mating, we’d be able to hear one another.
Together, we fly farther out, and Inferno roars, shooting fire, seeing another dragon. I recognize the dragon as Clay Hail, Inferno’s grandfather. But I don’t recognize the woman on his back holding on.
She’s beautiful, and my dragon roars within and mentally screams, ‘Mine’.
I can’t look away from her. I hold her gaze until she looks away. My chest burns with the fire I want to release for her.
What the hell?
I’ve never in my fucking long ass life have wanted to breathe fire for a woman. I breathe fire to destroy things. I breathe fire to torture, but never to show off to pussy.
Fuck me.
Inferno’s grandfather shifts in the sky and makes a turn, the woman tucked to him, face hidden away from me now.
Who is she? I’ve never seen her around here before.
