“He’s going to recognize me,” Raven said from the passenger seat.
“Put the hat on and pull your shirt down more. We want him to see your boobs, not your face.”
“Oh, you misunderstood,” Raven said. “I don’t care if he does or doesn’t. I’m just saying I think he will.”
“We’re about to find out,” I said as I pulled into the empty parking lot and backed into a space.
Raven got out to stand beside my Jeep while I ducked down in the front seat. He thought he was meeting Lindsey at the lakeside park for their first date. And he was. He just didn’t know Lindsey was actually me and Raven.
“Here he comes,” Raven said.
I listened as he parked his car a few spaces away and took his time getting out and walking over to Raven. I hated not being able to see what was going on.
“Hey there,” he said. “You must be Lindsey.”
“Yes,” Raven said. “And you must be Jason.”
“I am,” he said. “Nice to meet you.”
“You, too.”
I assumed they shook hands because he commented on the tattoo on Raven’s forearm, like most people did when she shook their hand for the first time.
“Nice bat.”
“Hi, my name’s Jason,” he said, extending his hand. “Jason Morris. And you are?”
“I’m Blaze,” I said, shaking his hand. “And this is Raven.”
Raven placed her hand in his.
“Nice bat.”
“Blaze!” Raven shouted.
When I popped up to see Jason sprinting away with Raven hot on his heels, I knew those words had triggered the same memory for Jason.
Nice bat.
I started the Jeep and slammed my foot on the gas as fast as I could. I caught up with them much faster than I thought I would. “Move!” I screamed and laid on the horn.
Raven glanced back and darted to the side, but Jason stopped and turned to look at me like a deer in headlights.
Thump.
“Ew!” I screamed, bouncing around in my seat before I came to a stop. Then I leaned out the window. “Did I get him?”
“Yeah,” Raven said. “But I don’t know what we’re going to do now.”
“What do you mean?” I asked and got out to get the rope. We needed to secure him and get him into the back seat before anyone saw us.
“I think he’s stuck,” she said, pointing underneath the Jeep.
“Fuck,” I groaned and pulled out my phone.
