When Gabby parked the tiny motorcycle off to the side, she and Riley climbed off and walked hand-in-hand to stand with the bridesmaids.
Right on cue, the infamous song began to play and the audience stood. Ranger appeared with Reese on his arm. “Are they related?” I whispered.
“No. Reese’s father was a member of the Devil Springs Chapter before he died years ago. Ranger is the last living original member and was good friends with Tank. Since her brother is also getting married today, Ranger proudly stepped in to fill those shoes.”
Next, Phoenix appeared with Harper on his arm. “Before you ask,” Kellan whispered, “Harper’s father is also deceased. She doesn’t trust easily, but she’s always trusted Phoenix, so she asked him to walk her in place of Duke.”
It amazed me how they acted as a family even though they weren’t all blood related. I’d never witnessed anything close to the love and loyalty they shared.
I was pulled from my thoughts when River came down the aisle on her brother’s arm. River’s genuine happiness radiated from her as she walked toward the man she loved.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from a biker wedding featuring three separate couples, but surprisingly, it was very much like a traditional wedding and each couple had their own moment to shine.
After the ceremony, they had a huge reception at the Devil Springs clubhouse. Once again, my family and I were welcomed with open arms. Everyone treated us like we were and always had been a member of their family.

After the wedding, life settled down into more of a stable routine for a few weeks. Coal and I finally moved into the rental house. Since it was a three-bedroom, we asked Grant if he wanted to move in with us, but he opted to keep his apartment. As soon as he recovered from his injuries, he was back at the gym working out with us like nothing ever happened. Since he spent so much time there, Copper had us hire him to help run the gym.
When I wasn’t at work or at the clubhouse, I spent most of my time at Avery’s house. Our relationship was slowly growing stronger. I went to doctor’s appointments with her. Riley and Braxton started calling me Kellan. We took the kids trick-or-treating together. I even ate Thanksgiving dinner with her and her family. For the first time in a long time, I was happy, and I think she was, too.
As I was walking back to the office to take my lunch break, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I smiled when I saw Avery’s name on the screen.
“Hey, lil’ mama.”
“Kellan,” she sniffed. “I’m at the hospital with my mom. Is there any way you can pick up Riley and Braxton from school and bring them here?”
“Yeah, I can get them, but what’s going on with your mom?” I asked and grabbed my keys to head to the hospital.
“Someone ran over her,” she cried.
“What?”
“That’s what they told me. They said she was walking to her car in the grocery store parking lot and someone ran over her,” she hiccupped. “I don’t know anything yet. They won’t let me go back to see her.”
“Sit down and take some deep breaths. I’m on my way. Have you called your dad?”
“I haven’t, but someone from the hospital did. He’s the one who told them to call me. He’s on his way from Croftridge now.”
“Good. I’ll be there in ten minutes,” I said and disconnected the call.
I didn’t bother to slow my pace as I passed the front desk. “Gotta go. Family emergency.”
When I arrived at the hospital, I found Avery sitting in a chair in the corner of the waiting room looking scared to death. She threw herself into my arms the moment she saw me coming toward her. “Oh, Kellan, they won’t tell me anything,” she sobbed.
“They probably don’t know anything yet, sweetness,” I soothed.
“Why can’t I see her?”
“Because they’re working on her. Let me see if I can get ahold of River.” I didn’t want to wake her in case she worked the night before, so I sent her a text message and asked her to call me if she was awake. Thankfully, my phone rang seconds later.
“Hey, Savior. Is everything okay?”
“Not really. Avery’s mother was hit by a car earlier today and is in the ER. They won’t let Avery go back to see her and she’s kind of freaking out. I didn’t know if there was something you could tell her that might help.”
“Sure, let me talk to her.”
