Dylan starts speaking before I have to think of anything. “Is that where you were this weekend? Why did you tell me you were with Michelle?”
“I thought maybe we could avoid this lovely conversation we are having now.”
He asks, “So, what is this thing between you two?” He looks at Beau. “Are you just fucking my sister? Is she just a piece of ass to you?”
I feel the need to intervene again. “Whoa, whoa, whoa. I don’t think anyone thinks that’s how Beau feels. And even if it was, Dylan, you’ve never cared before. Why the hell would you care now?”
He says, “I sure as shit have cared before, but you were always too far away for me to do anything about it.”
“And what would you have done?”
“I don’t know. Kicked their asses or something.”
I roll my eyes. “Dylan, you know Beau. Judging from your friendship, I’m guessing you know his feelings about me, so let’s not act like this is just some guy wanting to get his dick wet.”
My brother visibly shutters at my language and then turns his attention to Beau. “Is it more than that?”
I can’t believe Dylan is doing this. He has never played the protective brother card like this before. I’m not sure if he’s trying to put on a show in front of everyone else, or trying to get Jack and Drew to follow suit in protecting my honor. As if that ship hasn’t already sailed.
Beau looks at him. “Dude, you know it’s more than that. It’s always been more than that.”
Jamie now jumps back in. “I thought you two hated each other.”
We smile at each other, and I reply, “I guess it’s a fine line between love and hate.”
Jamie looks at Beau. “Is this why you got all pissy when I was talking to you about what Jo was like in bed?”
“What?” Dylan, Jack, Drew, and I all cry in unison.
“When were you discussing that?” I ask.
Jamie shrugs as if it’s no big deal. “Right after you started. I was commenting on how I think you’re an absolute wildcat in the sack, and Beau practically knocked my head off.”
“He should have,” Dylan says. “That’s my sister.”
Jamie smiles. “I’ve had a thing for all of your sisters. Why should Jo be any different?”
I decide to completely ignore everything Jamie is saying and turn my attention back to Dylan. “Yes, Beau and I hooked up. Yes, he and I are dating. We are going to keep it out of work as much as possible and just see what happens. While I love that you are trying to protect me, I promise you, I don’t need it. I’ve been handling my own sex life for quite some time now.”
Once again, they look totally grossed out.
Dylan says, “Ew.”
“Yeah.” I point my finger at him. “And if you don’t stop interfering, I will start telling you about my sex life, and believe me when I say I can beverydetailed.”
“Okay, okay!” He throws his hands up in the air. “Just stop talking.”
Thank God.
Jamie looks over at Beau. “So, was I right about her in bed?”
I get a little louder. “Do you think that we can’t all hear you? Is that why you asked me to the Halloween dance? You wanted to find out the answer to that question?”
“Can you blame me?”
I just lean my head back in defeat while Jack says, “Jamie, cool it, or I’ll write you up for sexual harassment. Dylan, leave Jo alone. And Jo and Beau, congratulations. Just keep it outside of work hours.”
Everyone mumbles in agreement before he changes the subject. I’m just happy now I can finish my bag of chips in peace.
