"Butdidyou meet someone?" she pressed.
I shrugged. "I guess? I mean, one of my brother's coworkers was on the trip, and I think he and his wife were going to try and set me up with him. He was nice, but nothing happened."
"Hm. I don't think that's it."
I'd been hoping that little tidbit would throw her off my trail, but of course it just made her dig in deeper.
"I don't know what you want me to say, Lex," I said. "I didn't have a magical Greek romance. This isn't Mamma Mia."
"I know it's not," she replied, rolling her eyes. "I'm not saying you went there and met the love of your life. I'm just saying something happened, and you're hiding it from me. Me! Your best friend in the world, who loves and supports you through everything and just wants to know what happened while you were away."
She pouted, fluttering her lashes at me, and I caved. Partly because I did trust her and she was my best friend, and partly because well... I just needed to tell someone.
I was so bad at having a secret, and she was the only one I could tell, seeing as she didn't know anyone involved personally, other than me, of course.
"Okay," I said. "Something did happen."
Her eyes lit up, and she clapped her hands excitedly. "I knew it. Tell me tell me tell me."
"I'm not giving you any names," I warned her. "I'm... I don't know. Protecting this person's privacy. They wouldn't thank me for spreading it around."
"You're not spreading it around," she said. "You're telling one person who promises to take it to the grave."
"Lex," I said with a warning tone. "I'm not telling you names."
She sighed and pouted again. "Alright, fine. Spill the rest of it then."
I took a deep breath. "Okay. So. I flirted a little with that one guy who was there, but nothing happened. Mostly because I got distracted by this other guy. And we ended up sleeping together. A few times."
"A few times!" Alexis crowed. "You little hussy. Was he from the island?"
I shook my head. "No. But I can't tell you any more than that, so don't ask."
She huffed. "You take all the fun out of everything. Okay, so not a native, maybe another tourist then. Someone you met on a tour or something. He caught your eye, you caught his. You arranged a secret little tryst. Only it turned into more than a tryst."
"Oh, it stayed a tryst," I told her. "Just... more than one tryst. There were multiple trysts. But there aren't any feelings or anything. It was just sex, you know. Just a thing we did because we were in Greece and it just happened."
"Fair," Alexis allowed. "Okay, tell me this then. Was the sex good, at least?"
I licked my lips and sighed. That was what I had been grappling with since that first time. There was something about the thrill of doing something I knew I shouldn't have done, sleeping with someone who was ostensibly off limits, and I had to wonder how much of that played into how good I thought the sex was. It was impossible to know really, and I couldn't deny that it had been very good.
"Yeah," I said finally. "It was really good. He was really good."
"Did you get his number at least?" she wanted to know. "In case you want to arrange another little series of trysts?"
"It wouldn't work out," I said quickly.
"I guess that makes sense. He could live anywhere. Be anyone. Maybe you'll both go back to Greece at the same time one day and have a romantic reunion."
"You're making it sound like Mamma Mia again," I pointed out. "It was what it was, Lex. Trying to make it anything else would be too complicated. Honestly, I just want to forget it even happened."
And that wasn't too hard to do. Once I got back into the groove of work, there was plenty to keep me distracted. I had shoots lined up, photos to edit and retouch, and what seemed like a million phone calls and emails to respond to.
There was no time to sit around making dreamy eyes, thinking about whether or not Logan was thinking about me, and that was for the best. What happened in Greece was going to remain in Greece, and if we never confronted it while we were home, then it could exist in a separate little pocket of time.
Or something like that.
