“That’s assuming youhadhim before.” The words trip off my tongue like I’ve lost my mind. Am I trying to get into a catfight? Seriously my mom will ground me if she has to wake up and come to school to get my suspended ass because I fought in the girls’ bathroom.
Sidney laughs. “You don’t understand how this works, but how could you? You’re just a virgin.”
Not anymore, but she doesn’t need to know that. “Why don’t you explain it to me?”
“Luke and I have been fucking since we lost our virginities together.”
Okay, that’s a kick in the chest. It’s not like I didn’t know they had sex, but I didn’t know they lost their virginities to each other. I’m not sure if that makes what they have special. It doesn’t seem like something Luke would find special. Maybe it does in her mind?
“He didn’t tell you?” She sounds so fucking cocky. She grabs paper towels to dry her hands and closes in on me while she talks. “There’s a reason he keeps coming back to me. Over and over again. We’ve always fucked. I know exactly how he likes it. So while you may be something different he wants to sample, I’m who he always comes back to.”
“Then you have nothing to worry about.” I shrug like she didn’t just squeeze my heart. I’m ignoring that, because I don’t know what it means and I don’t want to look too closely at that feeling.
That shit needs to be locked down, because Luke isn’t playing for keeps.
She throws her head back and laughs. “Of course I’m not worried. A girl like you could never be what he needs.”
Her gaze drops to take my measure. She gives me a fake sad face. “I’m sure you’ll get his cock in every one of your holes eventually, but that’s all you’ll be to him. A convenient place to stick his dick and get off. A toy he can use and throw away.”
I say nothing. This isn’t news to me. But she didn’t see his anger or taste his possessive kiss when I told him that last night. She didn’t feel his arm around me as I snuggled against him to fall asleep.
“I’m surprised he’s willing to share. But that just means he’ll need some one-on-one time and not sloppy seconds.” She steps back. “He likes to keep me all to himself.”
She turns to walk away, but stops as we both see Luke standing next to the door.
For a second, I swear her face shows her fear, but she smiles and all traces of it are wiped away. Maybe I imagined it. His eyes never leave me. They’re unreadable and cold. A shiver slides down my back.
“Looking for your toy?” Laughing, she walks over to him and dares to run her finger over his shoulder. That he lets her touch him is a slap in the face. “Let me know when you’re ready to come back to a real woman.”
She doesn’t wait for a reply but leaves the bathroom. When the door shuts, Luke reaches out and locks it. My already stampeding pulse kicks up a notch, but he doesn’t move toward me.
“What did she say, Harper?” Anger lingers in his every syllable, like it’s my fault she was here.
My instinct wants me to back away. To turn and run, but there’s nowhere to go and it won’t change anything. He can find me. He always does. I twist the ring on my finger.
Fuck it. I’ve done nothing wrong. I lift my chin and step forward. A spark of desire lights in his eyes.
“That you two lost your virginities together, so you’ll always go back to her.” I don’t need to hide what she said. If it’s true, I want to know. I can’t let it bother me. Even if it’s trying to burn a hole in my chest, it doesn’t mean anything. It just proves Sidney is a bitch.
Luke narrows his eyes and steps forward, but I hold my ground. “Yes, when we were thirteen, but that’s not why I fuck her.”
“Because she knows what you like?” I straighten and brace myself. It’s not like he doesn’t have all year to show me what he likes. He’s been training me since he claimed me.
Luke shakes his head as he closes in on me slowly. “She’s wrong.”
But that makes sense. Otherwise why would he keep going back to her? She has to have something he likes. Of course, he’s also been with eleven other women besides Sidney, and now me.
“She’s surprised you’re willing to share and says you keep her all to yourself. That I’m something different, but I’ll never be what you need.”
“And what did you say?” He stops in front of me, not touching me. Anticipation dances along my skin, waiting for his touch, craving it.
“That she has nothing to worry about then.”
That soft, seductive scent he wears intoxicates me. This morning, I smelled his cologne in the bottle when he wasn’t in the bathroom. It smells good, but there’s something about the chemicals that react with Luke to make that scent irresistible.
“You worried, princess?” His thumb slides down the side of my throat.
I swallow as my brain liquifies at his touch. “About?”
