Eramus buried his face again.
"Oh, I'm so happy," said his mother. "He's had an affection for her for a long time. Don't you think they make the cutest couple?"
"Completely adorable," agreed Yelene.
Was this really happening? This nightmare felt worse than the sinking ship that often plagued his dreams. In fact, sinking into oblivion accurately described the way his stomach felt right now.
Eramus pursed his lips and stood. "I think I'll just go to bed now."
He ignored their protests and practically ran to his room. The thin wall wasn't enough to drown out the excited female voices on the other side. He'd never hear the end of this. Of that, he was certain.
