“That’s great,” Fallon said, affectionately shaking my shoulder until I shrugged him off. “Atlas is an amazing trainer.”
It was nice of him to hype me up.
Tegan looked at me, rolling her lips with a mischievous sparkle in her emerald eyes. “He is.”
“We should all hang out sometime,” Fallon suggested. “Maybe you could come to our next game night.” It seemed like he was determined to make sure Tegan wasn’t like Jade. Which she wasn’t. Not even a little bit.
“That would be great,” she said excitedly. “I love board games.”
I laughed at the image of me, Fallon, Cyrus, and Kael crouched around a table playing The Game of Life. “He means video games.”
“Ah,” Tegan said, nodding slowly. “I should have known. I’m not the best at those, but I’d love to come hang out.”
“Cool. I’ll make sure Atlas brings you with him next time,” Fallon said.
Tegan glanced at the time on her phone. “Shoot. I need to go get some cakes in the oven.” She quickly gathered her things and stepped close to me. “Text me the time and your address. I’ll see you later. Thanks for the workout.” She stood on her tiptoes, placing a light kiss on my nose, which made my tail wag. “It was nice to meet you, Fallon,” she said before rushing out the door.
I stood there for a moment in a daze.
There was no way this was happening to me.
An awful breakup and then I literally stumble upon the girl of my dreams?
I was waiting for the other shoe to drop.
“I really like her,” Fallon said.
I figured he would, but it was still a relief. Even if he plucked my last nerve, I still cared what he thought, especially after everything with Jade.
“I’m glad but I swear, if you were watching us on the cameras—”
“Relax.” He laughed. “I didn’t see anything. But from yourreaction I can tell thatsomethingdefinitely went on between you two.”
I puffed out a breath. “Things have finally reached the tipping point.”
His eyes widened. “Oh yeah?”
I nodded. “She’s coming over tonight ‘for dinner.’ ”
“Gonna feed her that dick, I see.”
It was too funny for me to even be mad.
“Maybe I already did,” I said, shrugging nonchalantly. “Who’s to say?”
“Yo!” Fallon shouted, shaking my shoulder again. He was so excited, I couldn’t bring myself to shove him off me. “My fucking guy! I knew you two were up to something.”
I walked back to my office with Fallon in tow. I was going to have to check his client logs, because it felt like he didn’t do any actual work here.
I sat down at my desk and Fallon plopped down in the seat across from me.
“I’m so proud that my little wolf daddy is finally going to get laid. I wonder what she’s going to say about your McMansion,” he said, ruffling his feathers. He knew how much I hated that house.
“I can’t help it that I live in a fucking mansion, Fal. I’m sort of stuck with it at this point.”
“I’m just saying that I wouldn’t mention you bought it with your ex-fiancée, is all.”
I sucked in a tight breath, that little detail feeling like a heavy weight on my chest. “I have to at some point.”
