BACKGROUND:
Childhood spent in a small town in the Sacramento delta with two parents who “hated each other and used [her] as a middleman.” She never felt comfortable anywhere except with her best friend, Dahlia. While it was Dahlia’s dream to move to the big city, it was her idea to work in a vampire bar. Her goal is to be a teacher and now to help Fracture “live a little.”
RECORD:
No confirmed or unconfirmed kills. Notable record of violence during her rescue from what was considered to be an abduction but no reported injuries.
DISCIPLINARY ACTION:
N/A
PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT:
Miss Warren struggles with her inherent need to please and her understanding that she is a whole person with confidence. This insecurity conflicts her fascination with fear, which stems from her desire to let go of that rigid need to make everyone happy all the time. She’s a deeply nurturing person. When it comes to SF, she often struggles with her need to help him and the awareness that “he doesn’t need to be fixed, just accepted.” This stems from a deep love and appears to extend to the other members of the unit as well.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Miss Warren is remarkably equipped for dealing with the unique issues the unit faces, as well as elves in general. Despite her physical limitations, she shows no fear — or rather, acts in spite of it — and displays an earnest desire to help where and when she can. I believe that she should be allowed full access and resources to do so, and barring her from this task would be both harmful and ultimately useless.
NOTES:
I highly recommend Miss Warren’s application for a teaching position be considered. Keeping her close to Fracture and to elves stands to benefit everyone involved, as I believe she hastremendous value in teaching compassion and curiosity to our people. If possible, I recommend she be offered a position in the Solbourne Nursery.
EPILOGUE III
He was released under supervision. No assignments for three months. Mandatory therapy sessions with Dr. Starsbury once a week. And the worst punishment of all: forty-eight hours of service in the Solbourne Nursery.
Sloane had never been happier.
For the first time in his life, he didn’t feel the urge to hunt. He didn’twantto be on assignment. He didn’t even mind nursery duty, especially now.
“You’resurethey asked for me?”
“Affirmative,” he answered for the third time. “The captain requested your presence at their insistence.”
Cecilia picked at the purple tweed skirt she’d donned for the meeting. Neither of them had been informed about the subject of the meeting, but only one of them was worried about it.
Whatever happened, he was absolutely certain his doe would handle herself better than just about anyone else could.
Sloane rested one hand on her thigh as he pulled through the Treasure Island checkpoint. He’d learned that she enjoyed and expected his touch often, which was so astonishing he still found himself hesitating sometimes.
He’d seen the captain and Atria interact like that — with small touches and twined fingers and a whisper of lips on cheeks or hair or knuckles. It just never occurred to him that anyone would want those things from him. Especially if they knew who and what he was.
But Cecilia did.
