“Here you go,” she smiled, while handing my food over.
“Thanks, girl.” I yawned.
Jinny rolled her eyes, clearly not caring for my assistant, but I didn’t give a damn.
Sassy had literally relocated from L.A. to Houston just to remain my assistant, and I’d always love her for that. She was a young, lit girl, about her business. We’d met our freshman year in college and had been inseparable ever since. She knew everybody in L.A. and helped me to make several connections. She was also organized and proficient, which would sometimes go over people’s heads because of our closeness and her ascetic.
Sassy was a baddie, for sure. But never played about my brand, and kept all my affairs in order. Then since she’d moved for me, she was temporarily living with us, until she could find her own place.
With the busyness of my life, there were two reality shows on the table, and I was in the negotiating phase, wanting to retain full creative control over anything associated with my name. Plus…I was still trying to figure out an angle to omit certain parts of my life. Most specifically, the romantic aspect. Especially after the public had just learned about my relationship with Harlem, against my will.
“So, Summer, are we still doing your mom’s house today?” Sassy questioned, as she took a seat on the sofa, next to Jinny.
“Yeah.” I yawned for the umpteenth time. “I’m actually heading over there in a few.”
Harlem gazed at me with a frown. “Damn, so I aint invited?”
I hooded my eyes. “When did you hear me say that?”
“Shit, you never extended the invitation, neither.”
I exhaled. “Okay, Harlem, would you like to accompany me to spend the day at my mama’s?”
His frown deepened. “Who all gone be there?”
I shrugged, while he glared at me. “Family. The usual.”
“So, that includes both of the Rickys, right?”
I rolled my eyes to the ceiling. “I’m sure.”
“Okay. Then you already know that I’m fucking going.”
Staring straight ahead, I groaned. “Oh, God.”
Chapter 13
Breeze
“Array don’t be fucking playing,” I grumbled, as I stepped through the house, scoping out the ambiance.
I was expecting maybe some food on the pit, drinks, and a little music. Meanwhile, this lady had orchestrated a whole damn party that was obviously professionally decorated with a forest green and gold color scheme. Summer’s favorite colors.
“This is nice,” Ora admitted, as she walked beside me. “And the food smells good too.”
“Yeah, it really do,” I agreed, as I rubbed my hard stomach.
“Hey, Breeze,” Tele greeted with a hug, as I stepped into the living room.
Ora cleared her throat, gaining Tele's attention.
“Oh, hey,” Tele dryly spoke, before walking past her.
I could tell that Ora felt some type of way, but I couldn’t dwell on that, as I was swamped with family, right after.
At this point, if my pops and Array hosted any type of event, then our whole family showed up. On both sides. So, I wasn’t surprised by the large turnout. Plus, with mine and Summer’s stardom, everybody took any opportunity to be around us. Extended family and friends included.
Ora stood back, not saying much, as she hadn’t really been inducted into the family. Only a handful of people even knew of her, and I had never brought her to a family function before. So, this was all new to her, and I honestly didn’t know how this shit was gone go.
