“Take a wild guess.” The challenge hangs between us, bright and charged enough to make my pulse jump.

His eyes drop to my mouth, to where my teeth catch my lower lip, and I know from his expression his intent matches mine. He raises our joined hands and brings my knuckles to his lips.

"All this driving's wearing me out," he says. "Think we should find somewhere to stop for a while."

For years, I thought my life would be simple and predictable in my hometown. Lesson plans. Local festivals. A house with a porch swing and a small garden with stubborn tomato plants.The comfort of repetition. The safety of knowing what came next.

But sitting beside Logan with the highway unspooling ahead of us, mile after mile, promising something wilder than the life I planned, and a lot more thrilling, I know deep in my bones that I'm exactly where I belong.

I'm in for the ride of my life.
