“Expense it to Rusty?”

“You know it.”

Natalie smiled, but the reminder that he was there only on assignment made her run cold. “Kaylin’s waving at us; I think she’s at the register.” Natalie pushed past him so he wouldn’t see her change in expression.

“What?” Kaylin asked. “You look all doom and gloom all of a sudden.”

“It’s just my mom. She’s pushing for me to move back home. We looked at some houses together last week.”

“You didn’t tell me that,” Kaylin said. She turned away so Colt couldn’t hear her. “Maybe that’s for the best? I really don’t trust Gavin. I’m worried about what he’s capable of. But I also don’t want you to go. Could you just, like, marry him already?” She gestured at Colt.

“Is that part of his job description?”

“Doesn’t need to be,” Kaylin said. “He’s into you.”

“Stop.”

“I’m serious. Have you noticed the way he looks at you?”

“That’s literally his job. To look after me all the time.”

“I doubt he would stare this much at the booty of some bearded dignitary in trousers.”

Natalie shimmied her shoulders, making her boobs wobble. A teenage boy dropped his phone.

“I’m hard not to stare at. You designed the outfit that way.”

Kaylin smiled with pride. “Sure did.”
