“It’s not up for discussion, Harper.”
“Please don’t make me. I won’t feel safe with you guys.”
“Damn it, Harper. You know us. We don’t run around killing women.”
I glance at the ground then meet his gaze. “I don’t know you all anymore. I plan to solve the murders on my own.”
“Honestly, it could be a member of the wolves,” Sawyer says. “We sent them all to their dorms. Archer has assigned our most trusted wolves to watch the recruits and other members. We have an empty room. You can turn it into a nest.” He winks.
I don’t waste my time arguing with him.
“Will it be just the five of us in the house together?” I ask.
“Yes. When you attend classes one of us will be with you.”
“I’m keeping my door locked and I’m bringing my gun,” I add as I quicken my steps to get to my dorm.
“Fine,” he growls.
CHAPTER NINE
THATCHER
Learning our fathers didn’t want us to be with Harper made my blood boil. She had always been the omega for us. We never desired anyone else.
They want to take away our decision to choose our mate. Because we’re legacies, we should choose a snobby trophy wife. Absolutely not.
Arm pressing against the doorjamb, I drink in the little five five omega. Her eyes roam the large bedroom with the humongous bed big enough to sleep five.
“I sent my assistant Leta to purchase extra soft fluffy blankets,” I tell her.
She picks up the red blanket and rubs it against her cheek. “Smells so good. Like sandalwood, cedar, and clean laundry,” she says into the fabric.
I want to reach out and pull her against my body. Tell her how much I miss her. How I never wanted her to leave. But I don’t.
“There are also ten pillows, more than enough to keep you comfortable.”
She turns and meets my gaze. Those pouty purple-colored lips, that button nose I’ve always loved. That diamond shaped face, and those brown eyes that make my heart race every time make my words catch in my throat.
“I’ll walk you to class in the morning. If you need anything holler,” I say, closing the door behind me, not giving her a chance to speak.
The killer has to be caught. All omegas are in danger. If anyone comes for our omega, I’ll fucking slit their throat.
I step into the kitchen, swing open the fridge, grab a protein shake, and down it in one gulp. My stubborn erection remains. With her here now, I’m likely to stay like this constantly. It was simpler to despise Harper when she didn’t live under our roof. But now that she’s here, all I want is to hold her close and purr softly until she drifts off in my arms.
Fifteen minutes later, I’m knocking on Sarah's dorm room door.
“Who is it?” she calls out through the thick wooden door.
“Thatcher. Open up.”
She hesitates for a moment, then pulls the door open. “Why are you here?”
I enter the room and look around. Looks like she’s alone.
She leaves the door slightly open. As if that’ll protect her.
“Did you know Harper’s at Greywood now?” I ask.
