Sawyer’s expression softens, just a fraction. “I can’t explain it. I just feel it. Deep.”

Archer steps in, his broad hands forcing us apart. Another giant at six-six, radiating authority.

Thatcher moves closer, his growl low in Sawyer’s ear. “We’re a pack. That means we stand together.”

Sawyer’s lip curls. “Then you’d better get on board because if you don’t, Harper will belong to me.”

He disappears into the darkness.

Silence stretches between us.

I look at Archer. “How do you feel about Harper being back?”

His eyes darken. Anger radiates off his body.

“You already know,” he says quietly. “A part of me has been broken without her.”

He squeezes his eyes shut, then opens them, green gaze moving between Thatcher and me. “We move on. We find a mate.”

Thatcher drags a hand through his blond hair beneath the hood. “A new mate,” he mutters. “Right. Sure.”

Then he vanishes into the tunnel.

I meet Archer’s gaze one last time. “A new mate it is.”

But deep down, I know the truth.

There has only ever been one mate for our pack.

CHAPTER THREE

THATCHER

Dustin’s being bull headed. He still loves her. But his anger causes him to lash out at her. I understand. She accused him of cheating in front of the entire school. Nothing about their talk was private when that was done. I was disappointed in Harper. However, I dug deeper.

I remember standing outside the girls locker room. As each cheer leader exits. They smile and say, “Hi alpha.”

I smirk and wave until the one cheerleader I’m looking for walks out.

“Sarah come here,” I order.

Her brows raise. “Hello alpha.”

“I’ll get straight to the point. I’m sure you’re aware Harper and Dustin broke up?”

“Yes, the rumor is all over the school,” she says in a sugary sweet tone like she cares.

“You told Harper Dustin helped you through your heat?”

Her gaze moves to the floor. “No, she overheard me and my friends talking.”

“And someone in your petty circle recorded her?”

“Yes, alpha.” Her bitter scent surrounds us.

I choke down a cough. “Did Dustin help you through your heat?”

She’s silent for a beat then sighs. “No.”
