I hold onto that thought until I feel the limo stop and the driver get out.

The man once again opens the door. My hope grows wings and flies from my body as I stare at the private plane waiting to take us back to New York.

Chapter 44

Killian

I’m sitting in the surveillance room watching the footage of Sam with Rona in her arms, turning to look up at the camera before she hurries down the hall to the escape exit I showed her.

“I love you.”

Three little words that sent my mutilated heart soaring. I pause it, memorizing her face. The determination. The agony. She fuckin’ loves me. I run a knuckle down her face on the screen. “I’m coming, love. Just hang tight.” The last of my walls crumble, leaving a bleedin’ mess in my chest.

The door opens and Sully sticks his head in. He sighs and moves in, closing the door behind him, eyeing me like I might morph into a wild animal. “Pat called me. What can I do, brother?”

I motion him forward, then play the outside surveillance, where Sam gets into a limo. We can see the license plate as it pulls away. “I need to know where this limo went. I’m assumin’ the airport, but the fucker may have taken them someplace in town first.”

“Dead on. I’ll talk to Sandro. He has some boys on payroll who can track it down.” He pulls out his phone. “At least the explosives on the yacht were a bluff. Wish Sam could’ve known that.”

“Doesn’t matter. She wouldn’t have taken the chance with everyone’s lives.”

Sully reaches over and squeezes my shoulder. “We’ll find her.”

“Aye.” I just hope we find her before her devil touches her. She’s become my whole feckin’ world, which is bad news for him. I swear on every saint in the good book that I will bury him. But first, while he enjoys his lasts breaths on earth, I’ll make him understand that she was never his to touch.

My phone buzzes.

Beck:Got V. Warehouse

Me:OMW

I shove my phone in my pocket and stand. “They’ve got Veda.”

Sully opens the door. “I’ll ride with you.”

The guards nod as they open the warehouse door for us. Veda is tied to a chair, a rag shoved in her mouth, her dark eyes wide and streaked with mascara. I stride over and yank the rag from her mouth. She coughs and gags and immediately starts yappin’ about how she didn’t have a choice.

I cross my arms so I don’t reach out and yank her head from her neck. I need information first. “Shut. Up.” My voice is a growl.

She clamps her mouth shut, her eyes pleading, her body trembling.

“I will ask you a question and you answer it, yeah?”

She nods slowly.

“When was the first time Michael Barone contacted you?” I see her eyes shift and I know she’s about to lie to me. I pull mygun and shove the barrel under her chin. A whimper escapes her lips. “Don’t even think about lyin’ to me, ya fuckin’ useless cunt.”

Squeezing her eyes closed, she whispers, “Right after I got hired.”

This throws me. He’s been watching Sam for a month? He definitely knows about me then. How will that change her punishment? He’ll want to own her. Wipe away any trace of me in her mind and body.

Fuck.

I straighten and take a step back but don’t holster my gun. “And what did he want?”

“Mr. Donnelly… I didn’t have a choice—”

The gun is in her face again and I’m shaking my head. “Answer the bleedin’ question.”
