“I’m proud of the nominations and my staff.” I weigh my words. “If you’re still up for the gig, I wouldn’t mind a fake girlfriend for the evening. You know… until I catch the attention of the Montana brewer.”
She stares up at me for a long beat before storming out of the room, leaving me slack-jawed and staring at her retreating back.
What the fuck?
Chapter 46
My cross to bear
Harley
I’m biting my lip to keep the tears at bay.
I race down the hallway, bolt inside the guest bedroom, rush to the bathroom, slam the door, and lean against it.
My breaths saw in and out of my lungs as I try to breathe.
My lower lip trembles so hard, there’s no holding the dam.
I cover my mouth with my hands and dissolve into tears.
My whole life, I’ve wanted a man to see me as more than a hookup, and now that it finally happens, I have to pretend I don’t want it.
Things can’t go any further. Not with the cloud of my family’s sins still floating over my head.
I close my hand around my neck, where Kaz’s was not long ago as stars were exploding at the back of my vision and a toe-curling orgasm washed over me.
The perfect man for me…
I trample the thought.
You can’t have him.
My body convulses as tears run freely down my face. I don’t even bother wiping them away.
This is my cross to bear.
I curse this fake relationship for giving me a peek intoa life I’d sell my soul to have.
Kazimir Lindström and his mystery blonde––who we know now as Harley Lancaster––were spotted skating together at the Northview Ice Pavilion in Long Island, her wrapped around the hockey legend like a koala bear. Talk about spice on ice.
I too would be climbing that man like a tree if I had the chance.
Another juicy titbit was the fact the lucky blonde was wearing Kaz’s charity jersey Number 22. Talk about making a statement.
Will this be the kicker that gets Devlyn to choose to wear the captain of the Boston Bruisers’ jersey or will there only be room in the high maintenance prima donna’s heart for one man––Bratty Chett.
We haven’t figured out if this was staged or an impromptu afternoon at the rink for Kaz and Harley, but that little performance stole our hearts.

Chapter 47
Reckless
Kazimir
Dark clouds have been hanging over my head all day because I’m still reeling from yesterday’s rejection and I’m surprised I was able to rein in my emotions to make it through my lunch meeting considering I spent the morning snapping at my staff.
